Aaaargh! I thought at least others would see their idiocy, even if they can't. Wow am I glad I live in the UK. Kwyjibo P.S Is their site still down - I hope so.
Well every cloud has a silver lining: it'll also quadruple the chance someone gets pushed over the edge and shoots the lot of them during a protest.
they're just going to push and nip at the community until someone goes over the edge and a riot against them forms (see: Stonewall Riots)
Why would you want the WBC members to die? They don't hurt anybody (that I'm aware of, except their own children via mind pollution). They pose zero threat to LGBT equality. They are entertainment. Any 'emotional distress' they cause is a result of some people validating their presence and ideas way beyond what they deserve. They just stand there holding signs that are far too crazy for anyone to take seriously, so I don't understand why so many people do.
I can understand the fury of people who are already made emotionally unbalanced and volatile by the death of loved ones. What they do is such an emotional low blow i can totally get the hatred and anger they evoke.
You're right. I guess it's not really about the message but rather about their gross level of disrespect for other people in a grieving and vulnerable state. But overall, I still think they are given far more attention than they deserve.
The problem is, they're doing it on purpose.... because they know it works, and they know it's not illegal. The question is... is it a loophole in the law?
I believe they should have free speech, but I think funerals could be afforded more of a protection than a mere 1000 feet.
I think there's a loophole in the US constitution where **and I may be wrong about this, as I'm only going off of what I know from my own research** by using hateful and nasty language to start a fight the US government can step in and stop the organisation from using these **fighting words** (though the US constitution only prevents the government from censoring free speech not anyone else) They make their money by winning lawsuits people bring against them, taking that money going further and inciting more lawsuits, there's only about 100 people in the whole 'church' and at least 70 are related to the head of it
Not a loophole. Chaplinsky v. New Hampshire. But that only applies to words which directly provoke one into violence.
