A few weeks ago I came across a yuri anime called Citrus. I’m almost finished the season and I’m completely obsessed!

I plan on reading the manga as well. Along with the two mentioned above I also want to read Girl Friends and Hana & Hina After School.

Has anyone read any of these, or into yuri in general?

I skimmed through one, and it looked kind of cute.

Yuri can be interesting depending on the story. Often times it is just lite-porn, which isn't always bad, but sometimes it would be nice to see a bit more story.

I watch some yuri anime on the Internet. It's super tame and more suggestive than outwardly gay but some of its pretty good. And then there's the weird ones like the super cute bears that ate someone's girlfriend but one of them is in love with the one they didn't eat. It's weird. Maria sama ga miteru was sweet despite the fact it's a catholic school. But almost every girl came off slightly gay. One came off slightly more gay. Strawberry Panic was good, again almost every girl comes off as gay. I also got annoyed that not even a kiss happened in most of the stuff I could find. Which I think is kind of the point, apparently most yuri stuff is made for men. But I'll take whatever I can get and currently it's whatever the free anime websites I've found offer.

I tried watching Strawberry Panic years ago but found it boring.

    I really recommend Citrus!

Yes! I read Girlfriends a while ago and I easily see why it's regarded as THE yuri masterpiece. The romance is true to life and how most girls discover their sexuality and has fun, relatable characters. A must read if you like the genre. Morinaga Milk, the manga artist, is well known in the genre for her consistently down to Earth and realistic (makes sense as she is actually a lesbian herself) yet cute stories (I recommend the collection of short yuri stories she wrote) so I recommend her.

Yuri Kuma Arashi is good if you like cute bears, symbolism, and lesbians. If you're interested in that, also check out Revolutionary Girl Utena. It has several memorable and great gay characters. I'm not a huge fan of most male-targeted yuri like Strawberry Panic, and if you didn't like Strawberry Panic then I don't recommend Maria-sama as it moves waaay slower

I plan on reading Girl Friends after Hana and Hina, which is by the same author. And the collection of short stories as well!

Nice! Plus, a yuri manga called "Kase-san" just got a short PV and it's lovely

    That was really cute!

Btw, Morinaga Milk has a one-shot story called Secret Of The Princess.

I watched citrus in a day it was quite good but it didn't get where I was waiting for it to get until the last episode and I don't think there's a second season. It's near impossible to find a good yuri anime that either isn't outwardly yuri, porn or made for men. All I want is a love story between two girls that ends happily and that doesn't take 12 episodes to get going.

Yeah. It was pretty slow-paced and frustrating at times but I still enjoyed it.

You could try reading the other two I mentioned earlier.

    I really hated Citrus...
I like Strawberry Panic and Sakura Trick were really good though!
I'm more into shounen ai than shoujo ai.
Like Sekaiichi Hatsukoi and Love Stage.

What do those mean? I’m not really familiar with manga terms.

I'm not sure if you searched them up already but...

Shounen ai means boys love. Similar to yaoi but doesn't have explicit sexual relationships and focuses more on the romantic and emotional side to relationships between gay boys.

    Examples/Recommendations
Mizu No Haru by Kurosawa Kagame
Tsumasaki Ni Kourozu by Aoi Aki
    19 Days by Old Xian
    Doukyuusei by Nakamura Asumiko
Ameiro No Toge by Hayakawa Nojiko

Shoujo ai means girls love. Similar to yuri but doesn't depict explicit sexual relationships and focuses on the romantic and emotional side of relationships between lesbian girls.

    Examples/Recommendations
Tamen De Gushi by Tan Jiu
Lonely Wolf Lonely Sheep by Mizutani Fuka
The Witches of the Forest of Solitude by Huyou Satoyoshi and Yatosaki Haru
    Forever Girls by Amagakure Gido
Hana To Hoshi by Suzukin Kario

I've only mentioned manga and manhua (Chinese comics) but I'm sure that there are plenty of shoujo ai and shounen ai anime. I prefer to read more of these genres than yaoi and yuri since the other is more sexual. However that doesn't mean that shoujo ai and shounen ai genres don't have any sex in the story, it's just not explicit or intensely concentrated on (I think?). Most stories I choose to read just don't have sex in it.

Yuri and Yaoi tend to just be used as an umbrella term for manga and anime depicting sex same relationships nowadays though.

(Btw, don't just rely on this post since this is just a brief summary of what they are. There might be key things I missed out on or got wrong! Please correct me if there are )

^ Thanks for clarifying. I’m not into the really explicit stuff either.

Oh Citrus is amazing! I have to admit, I first hated it at first but it grew on me.
I highly recommend the manga Pulse by Ratana Satis. There are some R rated scenes in the manga so don't read it if you aren't okay with it.

Not a big anime person, but I watched Aoi Hana (Sweet Blue Flowers). Some of the things in the plot were a bit controversial, but it was a cute story

I agree with LazyGhost, Sakura Trick is good. It's very sweet, lots of kissing but doesn't get more sexual than that. There's a bit of overly in-your-face fan service that I didn't like but overall it's a cute story.
I would also recommend Simoun

So my favourite free anime and cartoon site disappeared. I had started watching Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid and other than being sexually explicit at times and a lot of its characters having bra sizes that don't exist on bodies that size, it had the benefit of all female couples and some of them were actually in love. I managed to see the end and that makes two yuri anime shows that I've seen that don't end with someone important dead.
