Keep it? Seems to me that close to the register they'd ask you about it, and if they did I'd be honest, but otherwise, free money? If I saw someone drop money, sure I'd give it back to them but if I have no idea who's it is then it's mine... Karma was just smiling on me, and I'll need to pay it back later~ that's just how I see things...

I would give it to the restaurant but not because I believe in good karma. You find that money near the register and most logical and identifiable source would be register. Keeping it feels like stealing and probably if someone else dropped it you can't identify the real owner.

If you are stingy and selfish person you can give it as tip so people might think you are wonderful person.

    Depends...

If I wanted to be an outstanding citizen, I'd find an employee and tell them about the $10 bill next to the register.

If I wanted to be indifferent, I'd just leave it there, for somebody else to make this choice.

If I wanted to make a profit, I'd go into the restroom, and do the following:

    - Get a piece of gum.
    - Open gum.
    - Chew on gum for a bit.
    - Put wet gum on bottom of shoe.
    - Take out $1 bill.
    - Fold $1 in half, horizontally.
    - Repeat gum steps, but for the other shoe.
    - Place $1 on one shoe.
    - Walk back to where the $10 is.
    - Step on it with the free shoe, but...
    - ... act like the shoe I stepped on was the $1 shoe.
    - Remove $1 bill from shoe.
    - People, sometimes, have gums on the bottom of their shoes, so this wouldn't be considered odd -- use this to advantage.
    - Place $1 bill on counter.
    - Walk out with $10 bill on other shoe.
    - Make +$9 profit.

And yes, this method has worked before. Though, the money wasn't in a public restaurant by the cash register.

I consider myself reformed of such ways now, but I'd be lying if I said the thoughts do not cross my mind.

I'd ask the person at the register if they saw who left it. If they did and the person was still around, I'd seek them out. But if not, I'm keeping it, because I'm sincere in believing I likely need the money more than whoever left it (financially hanging by a thread, living on the generosity of others atm :frowning2:). I'd feel morally safe in my good-faith effort to give it to its owner as well as not having to break my back to avoid keeping it.

I'd tell them about it because guilt, CCTV, and I don't need the money THAT much. I don't believe in karma.

But I'm probably keeping the cash if I find it elsewhere. Unless there's some form of ID and/or I know I can work out whom it belonged to. Anyway, I can give some of it to charity if I really need to kill my guilt. My answer becomes much more complicated if this is a huge amount of money because I know the bank would take a cut and people might wonder where the money came from if word got out.

I know I could hand it over to our local police station and it would probably be mine after 6 months (?) if nobody claimed it. But I'm impatient. Plus this article comes to mind.

(I'm having fun thinking about hypothetical situations now!)

Please, only give options on what to do, not the reason for that action, for example: I was going to select option 3 but I don't believe karma exists, (in a supernatural sense) so I selected other. I would give it to the restaurant in case the person comes back, but my decision has absolutely nothing to do with karma.

Well, idk it depends what you mean by "close to the register." I mean, is it sitting on the counter or is it on the floor? You need to define "close"... these are important details! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: I'm semi-joking, but kind of serious. If it's an inch from the register like it fell behind it or something I may tell the employee. If it's on the ground a few feet away I'd probably keep it if I did not know who dropped it. I assume the worst in people; I assume if I give it to the employee they'll just keep it themselves, so why not Zoidberg? I mean... me...

I would more than likely take it. I mean, I know it's bad, but 10£ is 10£ :3

I'll give them to the person at the register because is the only one who could know who left them. It happens to me once but I was who left the money, it was 2 £ I guess, the person who payed after me say to the cashier and he called me, I was still in there.

I would try to look around, to see if it's from someone. If not, I'd either leave it alone, or I would take it with me. =)

If it was left by the register then I would assume that it is some form of tip. I know my favourite restaurant can often be so busy that they don't immediately collect tips from people and leave it sat on the table or register for a few minutes whilst they tidy up and prepare for the next customers etc. I've always made sure to give a tip directly to the waiter or waitress, as the concern that somebody would swipe it if just left there has definitely been on my mind.

To answer the question: I wouldn't take it. I've never really had much of an interest in money, and I could easily walk past a small amount of unclaimed money in the street without feeling like it was a missed opportunity. I'd instead just draw staff members' attention to it as I would assume it to be a tip that was left for them, so it would seem only fair they benefit from it. According to the poll options, that isn't the actual reason the money has been left there, but in my mind I would interpret that money as a tip rather than just accidentally left there.

I'd ask the cashier first and if they were sure it's not the store's I'd put it in the tip jar, along with my own tip of course.

Not that I believe in karma, but giving it to the restaurant is what I feel is the right thing to do. Also I have these codes that I absolutely live by.

Picked other. I'd just leave it alone. Could be a tip left by someone for all I know...
