If Cruz becomes president, I will be very tempted to leave this country. I've been thinking about living in Australia for a while and a Cruz presidency might just push me there.

Think about it this way: Despite the cold war supposedly being over, the USA and Russia still have thousands of active ready to go nuclear weapons. Just 1/20 of them might be enough to kill off 90% of all human life on earth (yes even in Canada too)
The president of the US can potentially order those warheads used without consulting Congress, SCOTUS, or the American people. There have been situations in the past 60 years where both sides for various reasons came close to World War III, some that the American or Russian public didn't even know of at the time. Given that, who is the candidate that should least likely have their finger, figuratively speaking, on the nuclear trigger?

The president cannot unilaterally launch the nukes. There are multiple echelons of actors who can refuse to execute or verify the launch order. Even if the president lost it completely and ordered a nuclear attack it would be very unlikely executed.

Trump! I can't stand how he knows just the right thing to say to get the super conservatives to his side, when he doesn't even believe his own shit.

Trump, for so many reasons, his racist quotes about blacks among them:

“Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day.”

“Laziness is a trait in blacks.”

“A well-educated black has a tremendous advantage over a well-educated white in terms of the job market. I think sometimes a black may think they don’t have an advantage or this and that... I’ve said on one occasion, even about myself, if I were starting off today, I would love to be a well-educated black, because I believe they do have an actual advantage.’’

I have no respect for anyone who would vote for this asshole.

Clinton is most negative in my book. I actually keep a spreadsheet with the issues I feel are important and one of those issues with a lot of weight is no Dynasties. Clinton and Bush had an unrecoverable negative score from that. Clinton went on to be a criminal, if I had treated classified information the way she has while I was in the US Army I would be in jail still. Sanders is to socialist for me as well. The current leader on my spreadsheet is Gary Johnson (L).

Trump's only legitimate stance is probably his support for LGBT people. Nonetheless, he's as bad as any of them. Grow government. Mis-use the military. I want a liberty minded president. :frowning2:

If you mean that the President's order must be confirmed by the Secretary of Defense, then yes. The Secretary of Defense is appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. According to what I've been informed, by a reliable source, those are the two people who can legally decide whether to launch or not. If the Secretary of Defense won't confirm, the President can immediately fire him and order the Deputy Secretary of Defense to confirm.

I didn't mean to imply that whoever was elected would just be able to launch on some whim without some kind of precipitating incident. There are procedures in place to deal with a president who just goes insane for no reason at all. I also don't have any reason to suspect any of the current candidates would do that even if they could. However, if some legitimate precipitating incident were to occur, then the decision to launch is legally up to the NCA. They can potentially totally discount the advisers if they choose to. Whether people in the chain below him obey the order or not is a different matter. My source also indicated that there has been other situations where the US and Russia came close to war besides the Cuban missile crisis.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Command_Authority

The NCA consists only of the President and the Secretary of Defense or their duly deputized alternates or successors.

Honestly? I consider Trump, Cruz and Hillary to be equally bad.

I mean we're screwed either way. I happen to like Sanders but my Mom said if him of Hillary gets it we're moving to Canada.

I always think it's hilarious when people who are scared of Left-wing presidents threaten to move to Canada. Canada is like the Soviet Union compared to the U.S. It's even more liberal and socialist than anything you could imagine in America. It's certainly no escape from the treachery of Sanders or Clinton.

    Trump

He's a nationalist/use nationalist sentiments. FYI, if you missed this in History class, that's how Hitler got his big break. A divided, suffering country. Just add Nationalism. Its like Instant Oatmeal!

On top of that, I'm pretty sure he would agitate foreign relations. Not that I'm an expert, but from what guest speakers in my FLBA chapter and conferences have said, business deals are often done through friendships and other such relationships, where as diplomacy is much more delicate and need based. Plus, to be a good diplomat, you have to be diplomatic  . For some reason, I believe that Trump lacks certain graces which would be VERY important. In some ways, Donald is channeling the Ronald, who mind you, was President about 30 years ago, in a different time entirely.

Although he has sooo much Botox I think it might be funny to see him age in office!

I'll have to go with Cruz. He seems way too enthusiastic about carpet-bombing, and he has very close ties to the religious right.

Cruz is a nutcase. Take it from a Texan who dealt with him constantly in the news during his senate election...
Trump spews a ton of hot air. Despite all of his hot air, I feel like a good portion of his bigotry is just talk to get voters.
    I still don't trust him

Sanders is the only candidate that I would even consider voting for, the rest are all terrible - but Cruz is by far the most reprehensible and is probably a genuine sociopath. Trump isn't as bad, but still sleezy. Clinton is a careerist and stands for nothing. I'd respect her more if she had a firm stance on anything at all.

Bernie Sander he is a self proclaimed socialist. Those that claim free health care free tuition free retirement free this free that aren't telling you the fine print at the bottom of those claims. How about 70% taxes on the people. He wants minimum wage of 15 an hour and a 32 hour work week with 70% taxes well thats 470 a week minus 70% taxes leaves you about 150 a week to live off. Can you live off 600 a month. Again fine print that's the tax rate in Denmark which has all of the above but they have 20 an hour minimum wage. Greece Portugaul and Spain are in serious crisis that is what socialism does. Lets be fair the other guys and lady aren't the answer either. I agree with what someone said earlier if repubs backed of social issues concentrated on economy jobs trade foreign affairs and immigration we would have the right person but none have my total view. My problem is choosing the repub that will not hurt people in the long run since no Bernie and no corporate criminal are getting my vote

Those countries aren't socialist - they're capitalist economies. Much like Italy, the problems faced by Spain, Portugal and Greece have nothing to do with socialism. Corruption and tax avoidance are much bigger problems.

No country in Europe has a 70% effective tax rate. Belgium's effective tax rate is the highest in Europe at 46%. Perhaps you are getting confused between tax rates for middle and low earners, and tax rates for the highest earners.

Socialism doesn't exist in Europe. Europe is fundamentally capitalist and functions in broadly the same way as the US - just with a much bigger welfare state and greater state-led investment.
