Who was the first LGBT person you knew in real life?

How did you come to know them?

I've known of LGBT people, but are you talking about people that I actually got to know and be friends with?

If it's the former, I knew of this lesbian couple in my high school. They wore their sexuality with pride, and were the first ones to say something when someone would say something ignorant. They're admirable, although they did scare me sometimes.

If it's the latter, then that would be my friend T. T is gay. He was the first person I came out to, the first person I've ever loved, and the first person that broke my heart.

My ex-friend's older sister was a lesbian. I didn't know her but we met and crossed paths occasionally.

The only trans person I've met in real life is myself.

Well, the first person that I knew who was LGBT was my sister's first boyfriend, who's bisexual, but we never really talked.

The first LGBT person that I actually talked to was the lady in charge of the local GSA.

This girl I go to school with I suppose. I used to go to a different school with her when we were younger and she wasn't out then so I'm not sure if that counts, plus I wasn't good friends with her.

The first LGBT+ person I got to know was my best friend. We started going to school together 4 years ago and slowly became closer. She was one of the first people I came out to and she helped me a ton with that. We're now in somewhat of a relationship actually:slight_smile:

I first heard about something "gay," in fourth or fifth grade when Rob Halford came out on TV. I was obsessed with Living After Midnight at the time.

By seventh grade I thought one of my friends was gay. Ten years later it was confirmed I was right (though I kind of knew by like grade 9-10). Aside from that, I was friends with a few gay people in University.

My best friend's gender fluid sibling. It was kind of weird when I found out because apparently they were out to basically everybody and I didn't yet even know what non-binary was, let alone that they were gender fluid, so I made a comment about my best friend's "sister" and then there was an awkward silence... Kind of funny looking back on it, I had no idea what I said wrong.

The first LGBT person I ever met was one of my sister's old roommates, who was a lesbian; the first one I got to know was my sister-in-law, she's bisexual; but it doesn't really get brought up.

My best friend, Kyle! He's a great guy, and I met him my sophomore year in high school. When I started questioning and finally came out to myself, I actually realized I used to have quite the crush on him....

There are lots of flamboyant gays in the place I grew up, but I never really had a talk with them. The first LGBT person I have talked to is my friend (who was my best friend) in elementary school. Tho he only came out to us just this year  The first LGBT person that is out that I talked to is my trans f friend in college.

My mom was really good friends with this one guy in college who turned out to be gay. He and his husband are really good friends of the family and I've known them since I was little... Probably since around 3 years old. But I didn't know what 'gay' meant back then.

My oldest sibling came out as a lesbian when I was pretty young. He has since transitioned from female to male, but since he identified as a lesbian woman at the time it still counts.

I'm going to specify out LGBT person because it's possible I was friends with people who were closeted before this. In high school, there was a guy in the grade above me who brought his boyfriend to a school dance. It was a small school so I knew him but not well.

My auntie  Though I didn't know she was gay for a very long time. Everyone referred to her girlfriends as her 'friend' or her 'housemate'.

My mother had a gay friend when I was a child. I knew he was gay and I knew what it meant.

One of my trans friends, James or Kyra. I can't remember which I met first, but the three of us are basically our school's whole LGBT population.
