I feel ignorant for being a part of the lgbt community and having zero knowledge about this. How does someone identify as an intersex person?
Hey there, Intersex is a biological characteristic. According to Wikipedia: In other words, while most people are born with XX or XY chromossomes and a vagina or a penis, there are some people who are born with different combinations of chromossomes or genitals (like an incomplete genital formation which can't be discerned exactly as a penis or a vagina). One cause for this is the occurence of genetic mutations during gestation. If you think of gender, sexual orientation and biological sex as lines or bars, for educational purposes, it would be like this (in a short resume, just to clarify): Biological Sex assigned male at birth (XY) ----- intersex ----- assigned female at birth (XX) Gender (Cis or Trans) Man-----------------------------Non-binary----------------------Woman Sexual Orientation Gay/Lesbian----------------Bisexual---------------------Straight
My boyfriend has an intersex condition. In his case cause unknown. He gets shots with testosterone to keep his testosterone level about the same as other men.
