I would say pretty left, though I don't know. Generally I seem to support stuff that's more beneficial to the general people and whatever. One time I took a test and it said I should vote for the Green Party (of Canada) in the last election.

I'm not really happy to place myself in the traditional left-right line or even the more modern "quadrant". If I have to place myself somewhere then it is definitely strongly on the right and in the quadrant in the libertarian area.

Personally I am guided by a few principles rather than some firm political doctrine. For me, first and foremost comes freedom from compulsion from others, be it economical or moral. No one has the right to force me to follow their moral values just as I have no right to compel others to adopt my moral values.

The government should be as small and non-interfering as possible, especially in economic matters. However, as an economist I do understand that markets do fail and government intervention is often better than no intervention at all. So what should be the functions of the government exactly is up for closer analysis. For example, if government can objectively bring about a more efficient healthcare system than the private sector then I am open to discussion of public healthcare.

Not sure if social democrat is the right word, but I'm pretty much as liberal/socialist as you get before you get into anarcho-communism. I just think that having a state is a good idea, but government exists purely to preserve human rights, make sure nobody goes without, provide healthcare etc.

I do not, however, agree with the idea of a state which will regulate human behaviour that does not cause harm to others

Actually, not quite sure where I stand politically... those of us in the UK might describe me as pretty close to the Green, Labour or Communist party, but without agreeing entirely with any of them

I find this question quite hard to answer. I sit somewhere close to social democracy in the Australian context (the Labor Party) but in reality I think I'm closer to a liberal-conservative Christian democrat (for example, the German CDU), even though that doesn't really transfer well to my nation's political parties.

I don't frame wealth distribution or labour rights in terms of an aggrieved class history but still want those policies to occur. I am far from a market fundamentalist but still want an extensive global liberal trade regime to increase wealth, lower costs through efficiency and force states into mutual reliance to encourage cooperation. I conceive of welfare as a utilitarian necessity rather than a broad moral obligation of government to continually spend where no economic return can be expected. I favour freer migration but believe that the importance of cultural cohesion and attachment to national tradition cannot be happily dismissed as many on the modern left do. I believe liberal interventionism can be a force for good and that supranational institutions are invaluable.

I'm a Marxist leaning a bit towards anarcho-communism, though I have other thoughts about the whole private and personal property idea. So probably far, far, far left.

Left-wing liberal. I suppose Democratic Socialism. I don't trust the people enough to get rid of the government but I also don't think the government is doing the right thing for the people.

The closest I would say is Liberal Socialist. I'm very far left-leaning except on the death penalty.

Political compass places me in the down-left quadrant near the middle. But I've been called everything from a commie to a nazi  It depends on the topic, really.

I'm a Green Party Constitutionalist? I'm very liberal economically and social justice issues, but I'm very pro-life and believe very strongly in parents/family rights.

I'm registered as Independent, although Libertarianism is the one I agree with the most.

I'm a registered Democrat, but I realize there's problems with both parties. I'm definitely liberal-leaning

I’m a Centrist, economically as well as socially, leaning slightly more to the right than to the left.

Here is my score on the Political Compass test:

Threads like these are never a good idea; they're complete powder kegs. It's been fine so far, but I'm not sure it will remain so.
