Now I'll admit, I talk too much, often ramble on, and generally pester people on their walls here on EC, but recently I've noticed that we have this silly 1,000 character limit on wall messages. Personally I detest it, as it makes me have to go back and chop my half of the conversation into bite-sized pieces and post them bit-by-bit onto the recipients wall. I'm not condemning whomsoever put it into place, nor am I asking for it to be removed (if it's even possible to do so, that is), I was merely wondering when and why it came to be? Is anyone else pestered by this? Or perhaps the universe is trying to get me to be more short, sweet, and to the point?
I only noticed it recently; I know I've done longer messages in the past. I find it annoying, as I either have to make several posts or butcher what I wanted to say. Why has it been put in place, out of interest?
My assumption was that it had always been there? I can't recall any current or previous Admins saying that they had set a character limit on the wall messaging system, so I had always assumed it is just something vBulletin implemented itself when the wall messaging system was set up. If people are certain they were able to post wall messages over 1,000 characters long in the past then the only thing I can think of is that vBulletin 3.8 may have that limit as its default setting, so it would have automatically been enabled during that upgrade earlier this year. Will you be able to link me to one of them when you have some spare time? If I'm able to see that wall messages over 1,000 characters were allowed in the past then it will make it much easier to figure out how this setting came about.
