Since coming out, I've been listening to a lot more music. I've found that I can hear more things in music and I am relating more to songs and lyrics than I have ever before.

A song that I think perfectly describes what I'm going through right now is a song by Colin Hay called "Waiting for My Real Life to Begin". Colin Hay was the lead singer for Men at Work, the guys who did the 80s song "Down Under". "Waiting" is from one of his more recent solo albums. I heard it on my favorite show Scrubs and I loved it the second I heard it.:icon_bigg

Anyways, I know that this song isn't about coming out but it really kinda spoke to me so here's the link.

I also want to know.... What song do you relate to most???

I have two songs I have to post. I have related to one more than the other, but I have related to the other more frequently than the first since hearing it. Both songs--from my reading of them, at least--speak to the idea of things changing in one's life and are encouraging in some way.

Ignore the visuals in the video; this was the only video I could find with a good-quality, unabridged version of the song.

I actually found this song through a thread about coming-out songs on this very forum. I found it after I was completely out, but I have still related to it in many ways since hearing it. To me, it says, "I have been denying a part of myself, my past, or my present, or I have to change in some way, but either way, I can't deny it anymore. I can't just remain a passive participant as this happen and hope this goes away. Yes, my life will change significantly after this, but I need to face it with courage and resolve."

I discovered this song only about a year ago, but it has provided me reassurance through many hard points of my life. To me, it says, "Things have changed, and my life hasn't exactly improved as a result. But I have to fight on, and I don't have to be nervous." The fact that the lyrics are almost dialog-like also allows for some mental imagery of my future self, the person I want to be, reassuring my present self (yeah, I get really into lyrics when they mean something to me).

I'd say it'd have to be a 5 way tie between the following:

    "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera
"I Don't Wanna Be Me" by Amanda Clemens
    "Onion Girl" by Holly Cole
    "Rooftop" by Melissa McCelland
    "Twisted" by Joni Mitchell,

lol when you think about it, my ability to relate to all of these songs is a tad depressing

Back To December by Taylor Swift pretty much describes my life from Summer to November 2010. Like literally, even some of the things specific to Taylor's relationship happened to me.

I have loved this song as early as I can remember. Always listened to it when I was down or mad, and I still do. Its pretty much a "fuck what everyone says and be yourself" kind of song. Its in spanish, though, so probably no one here knows it haha but here it is for you curious people

I talk about the Smiths a whole lot. And I pretty much relate to every song ever made by them.

You've had a girlfriend in a coma?!

But seriously, the song that I relate to the most is "I Still Remember" by Bloc Party which is about an unrequited love a boy has for one of his straight friends so it portrays those famous feelings of "if only"
