I found the variations that gay panic takes quite interesting. Like (to paraphrase), "They were hitting on me and I was upset, as any man would be, so violence was understandable". Or, "They were probably trying to hit on me because of their sexuality". Or, "I had such a strong negative reaction to their sexuality that I went temporarily insane when I attacked them".

There are quite a few State and Federal level attempts to ban the panic defense. Banning has been successful in 20 states and DC, with attempts to ban failing in 12 states, and attempted Federal level bans not yet being successful.
