well, that’s a very subjective question! what are you looking for in a place to live? and how much energy do you want to put into learning a new culture and language? what standards of living are you looking for? which things are so essential to your life that you wouldn’t want to give up, and which things are you happy to trade in? What’s a good country to live in will differ per person depending on what they want out of life, there isn’t really an objectively “good” country so it might be good to specify a little more about what you’re looking for

    Fully agree with that!

Each country is so different that you have to decide what exactly it is you are looking for in a country and is important to you, so you can be offered advices and suggestions based on your tastes.

I have lived in 6 different countries in different continents/sides of the world ( Europe, Oceania, Northern America and Carribean) and each country I have lived in or even just visited haved had pros and cons.

For example I value warm (enough) climate, low-cost of life and having a big LGBT scene which is something hard to find in most places. I have thought about moving to Canada (Toronto) but Canadian winter is making it hard for me to consider it a viable option long-term so it's all about what you value and what you can put up with as no doubt every country has downsides.

Thanks you both for your reply. I was thinking of moving to Vancouver in Canada they speak English and the culture is very much the same as were I'm from.

@Linning would you mind telling me more about what country you lived in?

Assuming you come from Ireland (as stated per your profile), what is it that you don't like in Ireland that you are hoping to find in another country, it seems important to you that your new country speak English as the national language and has a similar culture, but there must be stuff you think Canada has that Ireland doesn't, and are appealing to you to make the move "worth it" if so, what?( it helps for suggestions).

I have lived in Australia, Spain, Germany, Italy, Carribean (don't want to specify where as that would be outing but one of the main islands), the US and France (home country).

All very different culture-wise and weather wise, so if you have any question about those, I would be happy to help if I can

Thank you @Linning for your reply. The reason I would like to leave Ireland is that I live in a town in West of Ireland and some times I feel alone. There not much of a LGBT company here.

Would moving to a city like Dublin helps?

Moving abroad isn't a cure to loneliness unfortunately and builiding up strong friendship abroad is much harder than building them at home.
It's not impossible but require much more work because everything is new and most people already have long time friends and don't feel they need more so it requires double the work to actually dig yourself a spot inside an already formed friendship group and to build your own.

Not saying this to be negative but because if loneliness is the only reason for your move, I want you to be conscious that moving abroad might not be the solution to that and you might obtain similar results living in a bigger city in your country.

I totally understand your feeling though, I am home visiting right now and find it so dull and boring and the LGBT scene here is so small it's depressing.

I am moving in two weeks again to a new place and I am DREADING having to form new friendships and else again when I was just starting to feel settle where I was (in a place that had an amazing queer scene) so it's do-able of course and I know I will do it again but the effort required can be a bit of a pain sometimes and cultural gap can also make it harder (or easier depending on the country).

I live in Canada, actually lived in 3 different provinces (Ontario, Alberta, and NovaScotia). One thing that i have noticed is that Canada is very diverse and every province tends to have it's own culture. Because of this the overall culture tends to be very open and accepting of differences.

I dont know much about Vancouver but from what i have heard they have a good LGBTQ community. But living out west has its downsides. It is really freaking cold out there. I lived in Wetaskiwin, Alberta where the temperatures reached -40 to -60 degrees celcius on a regular basis.

If you are looking for a warmer province Ontario is around -30 in the winter and NovaScotia is around -20 to -30. Toronto has a great LGBTQ community but has a very fast paced busy feeling and with a big city comes a lot more crime etc. Its a mixed bag. Halifax is a smaller city but still has a vibrant community and a much more close knit feeling and lower crime rates if that is something you care about.

We shall see, it's very gay so I know I will be fine on that side, but not sure what living there under the current the current government will be like, but we shall see, I am definitely going to miss Europe a bit though!

I wish there was someplace I could go to be untouched by the rampant idiocy of the modern world. Sadly, I don’t think such a place exists

You're so lucky @Linning! I really want to go to San Francisco! I'm hoping I can get a job out there after I finish with school.
