Ok, this was on my mid for a while, and the more I thought about it, the more it seemed to actually make some sense. Now I know everyone is gonna say he loves Monica and he married her, but there seemed to be telltale signs he is secretly in the closet. Here are some points as much as I can recall from the show: He kissed a dude in Atlanta city. In one episode, Ross tells Monica that Chandler isn't the type of guy who would go around bars kissing girls. and Monica asked in excitement, "YOU KISSED A GUY?!" To which Chandler responses, "In my defense it was dark and he was a very pretty guy!" His father is a drag queen and he has childhood memories of his dad showing signs of that very transformation. I have a theory that people within families share same genes which means orientation. Still looking into family theory. -Joey has in interview about his career in Central Perk with his friends on the couch nearby of his request. In one question Joey's asked about knowing any Gay people, and he says, "I don't personally know of any gay people." and suddenly Chandler says to the gang, "It hurts me, it physically hurts me." as he is consoled briefly, but I wondered why he said that, still puzzles me. These are only what I have gathered, it is just an after thought kinda thing, as I am just thinking that he may be a latent closeted special orientation interest, perhaps Pansexual or something, I am not sure. I didn't dig deep into this but you can find the videos of scene on youtube, and can also find some more evidence in "Best of Chandler" or something. Just something to chew on. What do you think?
They were actually planning on making him a gay character, but they cut that out of the script, just due to the fact that it might not have sat well with audiences at the time. It was 1993-1994, and something like that wasn't even conceivable in a sitcom like F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Never had a gay character in the main cast. It was altered to where it was a joke in order to poke fun his character a little bit. Anyway, he does marry Monica, right?
Doesn't he say "I don't personally know any REALLY BIG gay people," or something like that? And so he was reacting to the stupidity of Joey, thinking that the interviewer was asking if he knew any fat gay people. Idk, he seems consistently straight to me in the show. The guy he kissed supposedly looked like a women. ---------- Post added 9th Aug 2014 at 02:50 AM ---------- Oh wow I didn't know that.
My opinion is Chandler was straight. I love that show, and watched it many times. If any character came off as gay it would have been Ross, but needless to say Chandler was straight. He adored and loved Monica. That is my two cents
I remember an episode where Ross and Joey enjoyed a nap together. And another where Phoebe had a crush on Ross and Monica's cousin.
Oh, come on! The writers used to play with the characters's sexuality all the time, not just Chandler. Chandler and Joey, Ross and Joey, Ross and Chandler, Monica and Rachel, Rachel and Phoebe, Phoebe and Monica, Phoebe and Monica's cousin... They all had a joke about it. I read somewhere that, in the beginning, they really considered making Chandler gay, but they gave up after a few episodes. He was just a unpopular boy with commitment issues and difficulty to approach women.
You can infer whatever you like, but there was never anything to suggest he was any more than a straight guy with some serious issues that apparently came off as camp... i never thought he did though you can construe anything in any way you want. Joey for example - always hugging chandler, asks ross to kiss him for an audition, kisses chandler at new year, and he turned down a part in gay porn because he was in denial, womanising to pass as a straight guy, never has a serious relationship and only really falls for rachel and can't even get it up for her - definitely gay
