People keep telling me I'm trying to be different in everything I do.
Just because I like things they have little or no interest in.

Like Poetry, I fucking love it!
and because I have a bit of Bach on my ipod for when I'm working....
I smoke a different brand to them....so im trying to be different.
I speak differently....so i'm trying to be different
I drink martinis....so im trying to be different

    D:

Has anyone told you you're trying to be different?

I find it a compliment to be fair, just knowing I have some originality.

No one has ever told me that.
Because I try to be the same. But a better version of the same. Like a Same 2.0.

However, I do think that people who need to list off things they do that are different might be trying unconciously to be different.

*points at hipsters* Vinyl died for a reason, guys. And the reason no one knows your band is because they aren't very good, not because you're cool.

But that's fine. You can be different. Just like everyone else.

Fuck trying, I do it naturally. I would hate to be like the people I'm surrounded by.

Yup, I've been accused by some of "trying to be different".

I cut my hair short, so I'm different.
    I wear men's clothes, so I'm different.
    I smoke roll-ups, so I'm different.
    I'm vegetarian, so I'm different.
    I'm lesbian, so I'm different.

People don't understand that we don't try to be different for any reason, but I just am.

Oh dear lord, completely. I'm fine with them being them, but I certainly don't want to be.

People often say that I am different, but they always seem to mean it in a good way.

You Need To Be Different, If You Weren't You Would Be Just Like Them, If Everybody Was The Same, We'd All Be Robots.

Judging by everyone's comments, it would seem that by trying to be the same, I'm quite different.
    Smells like paradox.

We can all be unique together (except Numfarh who tries to be the same but ends up being the only different one) !! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I don't try to be different, I just try and have fun and by doing that, I end up being different (two watches ftw !) and I love it. I love seeing how people react to something that is different to what they are used to. That's why I sometimes love life, it's just one big experiment and every person I come into contact with is my guinea pig.

Besides, people are more likely to remember the unique people as opposed to the ones who are the same as the people next to them.

  10. I don't try, it's just natural. I've never been accused of trying, but if I had a dime for every time someone had commented on something like that, I'd be... moderately wealthy. I definitely think it's a compliment.

I really can't stand "sheep," although some of them can be quite interesting if you separate them from the flock. Which is why my friends are all as "unique" as I am.

I'm very different from most of the people around me. Unfotunately, no one notices because I have absolutely no social skills whatsoever. Most people's first impression of me is either that I'm mentally slow or really boring. The rare person who tries to get to know me though gets a nice surprise.

  13. Me too. I can just imagine a little clique of three Joes... *shudder* Not pretty.

Normal people are so frickin boring anyway

Most people who know me, know that I'm naturally different, but sometimes people think that I'm "trying to be different" just to annoy them (because of course, everything I do, revolves around them *eye roll*)

I was wondering, if you get like a specific number of different people, say 1 out of every a hundred people who would be considered the... most different in that group, and you took them to a 'different convention,' would you find that most people are different in the same way, but just in their own social groups, so in fact they're not really different compared to other different people?

I suppose you'd have some people who were different in other ways to the other people, and therefore these people would truly be the 'different' people in our society...

I think that sort of makes sense, but it made my brain hurt a little.

Lol, it's ok; it is an interesting question, if I understand what you meant.
