I like the idea of having manners and decorum when the situation calls for it but you can have plenty of it in a t-shirt and sweatpants

I practice manners all the time

I do have to agree though...who decided one day that an elbow on a table was a bad thing?

    I forgot to add:
I hate social norms though. Like how you're supposed to something in a certain way because that's how it's been done before. Elbows on the table is a good example I suppose, but I have to say that I rarely find myself doing that anyway.

You seriously need to reevaluate your definition of class, here. I know people who have spent years living out of their cars that show more true class every day than I've seen in anything you've posted here. If you truly hate sounding like a spoiled rich kid with no sense of the real world, then do something about it. There's only one person that can ever fix it, and that's you.

And the "I don't understand the hardships" thing is a bullshit excuse. People get irritated with you because you treat everything and everyone like it's beneath you. You have everything handed to you, but somehow you manage to bitch about that, too. It's not about anyone being jealous. You've got it made, and all you ever do is bitch about everything. Meanwhile, there are some of us that are just thankful we have a roof over our heads and leave it the fuck at that. Just learn to appreciate what you DO have.

Oh, and here's a little hint: using the phrase "certain kinds of people" just makes you sound like the biggest asshole outside of fetish porn. For someone bitching about everyone lacking class, you sure could use a rather large dose of it yourself.

I'll play Devil's Advocate and say that, in a way, culture and regionalism, have a lot to play with "manners." I don't come from money, by a long shot, but I was raised the Southern United States. It is common for middle class families to have heirloom china and fine sterling flatware used for special occasions and when entertaining company. I actually love polishing the silver (we have Reed & Barton Francis I) on a cold autumn afternoon (if it ever gets cold down here) and setting the table for the holidays. Sure, it's a pain to handwash everything, but the sparkle and warmth of the flatware is something that makes it worth it for those occasions. The only hassle is when serving salty, acidic, or egg-based foods because you get pitting in the silver and have to polish it out more. But, I think this is because the South has a real fetish with silverware and china whereas in other regions, you might only find it in the upper echelons of society.

I also like to dress up in suit and tie when the occasion merits.

That being said, I would never trade the advancements in social progress for the spurious niceties of a bygone era. That being said, the OP, while entitled to their own opinion, could sound less condescending.

I was just wondering something, why do you have a snobby looking girl as your avatar. And why do you have a barely dressed one as your profile picture. Because that thing is not exactly very appropriate or classy.
On the more appropriate note, I consider manors to be, in base, useless. I conform to them, of course, but I do not believe in them. They have absoulutely no point aside from a few basic ones, like, for example, not being a jackass jerk. Not putting elbows on a table, or not eating with your mouth open (though I do eat with my mouth closed), or dressing in ridiculusly fancy outfits just for the point of wearing ridiculusly fancy outfits, I consider those completely useless.

And that was needlessly hurtful, and being a jackass jerk, samAlex.

Alexander's choice of avatar and profile pic- and his love for Jersey Shore- really highlight how subjective this whole issue is.

When I think of snobby, sluttily-dressed rich people with too much makeup and fake tans, I don't think class, I think trash.

I feel Kim k is classy in her own way her looks and her family. And at one point she was an average private schooled girl. He father was a lawyer. As for my avatar that in the venetian princess (not real princess) but she's elegant and most pretty

Again, this is proof of how subjective the issue of 'class' is.

I find the Kardashians and Jersey Shore to be trashy, not classy. Literally they are the total complete OPPOSITE of class in my mind.

    Money can't buy you class.

While people are bitching about this being insensitive, it's really quite on target. People should really learn to stop taking stuff for granted.

Yes but still, maybe some better wording? It just seemed kinda rude to be rude while complaining about someone else being rude.

Inceptarude. But it didn't seem to me that he was being rude about the rude-ness, but rather being rude about the hypocrisy of being against rudeness while being rude. Sure it was harsh, but it was a needed message.

It was a needed message, just saying he could be a little less harsh and rude about it.

Fair enough, but honestly, some of his comparisons were pretty amusing. Keep in mind, anywhere other than EC, that message really wouldn't have been shocking whatsoever.

1800's lets see, what was my family doing, oh yeah, Ireland 1845 - 1852 there was a Potato Famine, During the famine approximately 1 million people died and a million more emigrated from Ireland, England's ruling classes drank tea from china cups & ate fancy meals whilst Irish generations were wiped out, it's a miracle that I am here today, my DNA survived, others didn't

A majority of people are certainly a lot more rude nowadays but what they do (such as the way they dress and how they eat/what they eat with) is up to them. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Mostly speaking about speech manners here; I usually come across as rude because I only mutter "Thanks", "Please" and "Sorry" and have done since I was young because I used to be extremely shy. When I say thanks, I sound like I'm saying 'hanks', I'm that quiet. The only time I say any time of thank you audibly is when I'm getting off a bus and say "Cheers" to the driver. I do come across as rude and sometimes I can be very blunt about what I say, but I don't mean to be. I am secretly worried I'm offending somebody, which is why sometimes I don't post certain things on here, but if I was face to face with the people posting in the topic, I'd say it.

I think there will be a few people like me, who come across as rude but don't mean to be.
