  3. Him: The walking dead was cool, until they started putting gay people in it.

    Me: .........

Same person: I don't like gay people.

    Friend: Why...?

Him: Because they smell funny and talk weird.

Me: YOU smell funny and talk weird. Got something you wanna tell us?

    I think we smell great.

    Lol!
Lol!! Yeah, I've never heard that before. Well all the gay guys I know are very vlean shaven, so I guess they'd smell weird to the stereotypical straight guy (not that all straight guys smell like they don't take care of themselves, they're just more likely to.) Again, I'm just going by broad stereotype since they went by broad stereotype (although, again, never heard the weird smell stereotype before)

My dad, talking about gay people: "You can just tell when people are gay, you can just tell." *proceeds to talk about my gay best friend and how he knew my friend was gay before he ever told him he was.*

Really, Dad? You can, can you? Because your bisexual son is sitting on the couch across from you, and you have no idea.

(This is similar to my above post, but are two differnet situations. I am noticing a pattern in my family...)

Colton Haynes is on a TV program and my sister thinks he's cute, so I casually mention he wouldn't be interested because he's gay.

My mom: He doesn't look gay.
Me: Gays have to have a certain look?
Mom: No, but I can usually tell.
    Me:

(Note: I am not out to my family)

I get a real buzz and sense of power when this kind of thing occurs to me. Do you think this or just think they're a******s?

Well, I don't really think that my parents are a-holes when it comes to this stuff. They're accepting of the LGBT community. There's just stuff they may not fully understand, so they say things that kind of come out wrong . As for what goes through my mind when this kind of stuff happens, I wouldn't really say it's a sense of power, more like an inside joke with myself because its like "Oh, if you only knew the irony of what you just said." I take it as more of a "I know something you don't know" kind of thing rather than a sense of power.

Who the hell would actually say this? And what kind of logic is that person using?

It's good that your folks are on board with LGBT things. I think I probably overstated things in re-reading what I had written and I certainly get the inside joke aspect, I kind of do a wry smile inwardly.

    I don’t care if you’re gay, but...
You’re gay, are you coming on to me?

This is one of the reasons why I am not out to more people as I suspect they will think I automatically fancy them - how conceited can some people be

My mom is on-board moreso than my dad, at least I believe so. I talk with her more about it because she knows my best friend (who is gay) better than my dad does.

It was interesting trying to tell her about another friend I have who is pansexual and nonbinary. She looked at me like I had five heads (and still doesn't really get the concept but is accepting of my friend). At least I won't have to worry about having that talk with them, as I am cisgender.

Same. I'm only out to people I feel would get it.

It is a whole new world to some people, almost like a new language, I guess it's down to lack of general knowledge and information and the majority of people have other things to be concerned about.

Yeah. I don’t know why I’m not completely out, I mean, I’m out to like 20 people. It’s kind of funny.
