Senate Passes Bill That Bans Certain Tattoos, Body Markings

    Arkansas

How does one feel about this? It seems to want to ban things like scarification but then also has a lot of "vague" language written inside of it. It moves to the house now so I guess we will see where we lie on this issue

While Scarification or a dermal implant is kinda something that I would not do, its our own bodies and we should have the right to do what we want with them. These modifications don't have any real dangers if they are done properly.

This is crossing the line really, some things the state should have no right to rule on

Utter bullshit. If you agree to something under sound mind without being deceived, and it harms no one else, it ought to be your right to do it.

    I sure as hell wouldn't.

If this passes count me in on the wanting to get it overturned immediately by a Court of any stature crowd.

Oh, I thought they banned body augmentations, like cybertronic arms and thermal vision implanted into your palms. I'm such a nerd.

Huh, one wonders if they have anything better to do in Arkansas. The hills are real pretty down there, why not do some hiking, and maybe they'd try to find ways to preserve the natural beauty of the place?

As for dermal implants, not my thing, but if you want them, I can't see why you should be prevented.

How dare they. They have no right to interfere in such a way.

This is just another example of the government attempting to assert that it has some type of authority over the bodies of individuals. I'm opposed to the first part of the law.

I could be brought around to the second half of the law, which focused on children, if it were modified and expanded. Something along the lines of outlawing all modifications of the bodies of children that were not deemed medically essential by a qualified and licensed medical professional. The ban would end once someone became eighteen years of age (a legal adult), and they could choose to do whatever they wanted after that.

I believe strongly that individual people should always have consent over what happens to their bodies. Children lack the ability to consent, and teenagers are subject to coercion and other forms of pressure (not only from peers but also from authority figures).

A law such as that would protect their right to bodily integrity until they were of an age where they were old enough to make such decisions for themselves. After that, it's not the business of the government what people do with their bodies.

I remember a few months back reading that this was being drafted. I'm fairly surprised that it was passed. I can understand banning it for minors, but for consenting adults? No.

Another of those small government conservative undertakings i see...

Federal courts should have a field day with this if it passes.

    This is so stupid.
These are the same people who would piss blood out of their eyes if you suggested they should ban circumcision on unconsenting newborns. Yet banning adults from having superficial cosmetic modification that they decide on themselves, hot damn hold the bus we can't allow that!

Is Arkansas one of those shitty states? I don't know - all I do know is that they either spell or pronounce their name wrong.

Anything that takes away someones right to do with their body what they want is evil and abusive in my book (if you are not hurting anyone else).

This is so stupid. Let the people do what they want with their bodies.

I agree with laws limiting body art/modifications for minors, but not for adults. What actual problem are they trying to solve with this? All I can think of is enough legislators and their constituents don't like this stuff so they want to stop people from doing it. It won't stop someone from going over the border to get it done.

It's just like marriage equality, some people don't like it so they want to restrict everyone's freedom to do something that doesn't harm anyone. These laws have no legal basis as we're seeing in all of the marriage cases.
