Well, my former (gender) therapist drafted me a letter for top surgery, and she has given me names. I've spoke with some guys from my trans group for recommendations, as well as prices, among other things, and have narrowed my choices down to two surgeons.

I asked my mother a while ago if she would be willing to loan me enough for surgery, seeing as I can most likely cover half of it with what I have now, but she declined (and it came with an unnecessary rant, free of charge, fun). I had a discussion with my dad about it yesterday, and he said he'd be more than willing to give me a loan, just as long as I pay it back, which, of course.

I may be super close to getting top surgery now and I'm beyond relieved. Hopefully everything works out here eventually.

Guys, do you mean top surgery as a simple reduction of the size or a removal after taking testosterone for a while?

It's breast removal but you don't need to go on T to have it done.

Top surgery usually implies a complete removal of the breasts, and most seeking out surgery have been on testosterone for a while although it's not a requirement.

Really????? In Italy this isn't possible! :icon_sad: But are you sure? Is a removal like if you had a cancer, for example?

Right. For example, it's unlikely that I'll ever go on T but I do plan to have top surgery someday.

It's similar to a mastectomy for cancer only some breast tissue is left to allow proper contouring to create a male chest.

It's FtM chest reconstruction surgery. In the US it costs between $4000-$7000 but some insurances will cover it. Mine will (I just found out last week!).

Hmm... I know that they do it in Sweden and the UK. It really depends upon what you want to do otherwise (like if you lived in Canada or the US). However, if you see a counselor in Italy who writes you a letter, you could come here for surgery. I think it costs maybe $900 to fly (round trip). Then, depending upon which type you needed (there are different methods for different breast sizes; I am a 38A and will probably be able to do the periareolar: FTM Top Surgery Procedures - Double Incision, Keyhole, Peri-areolar, Inverted-T). So, maybe it would cost around $5500-$8500.

I know of people using "crowd-funding" to help raise money to have surgery so, that can help a lot potentially! (*hug*)

Yes but since they have socialized medicine, I don't know what their policies are regarding people from other countries. It may not be possible there without residency. :frowning2:

In Taiwan no rec letter or proof is needed. You just walk in there, the surgeon goes over the procedure and discuss it with you and you're all set after the paperwork is done. It's considered to be cosmetic surgery here.
And costs much less...I would say around $3000 USD for the procedure alone. That is, That's what I know... so far..

From what I've heard, it's alright. But still... same category as rhinoplasties and implants?... Hmm
Anyway if I were to do it I would have to be very discreet. Because...family.
