Interesting article about LGBT people making a difference in this election.

I'm very happy that pos moore lost. Even before I heard about his exploitative history with young girls I knew he was a creep who hated LGBT people and other minorities. Sadly, those prejudices along with being anti-choice is why so many people vote for the gop even though pretty much everything they do hurts those people. They've been brainwashed to hate LGBT people and abortion so that's mostly what matters for them when voting. If they could think critically maybe they would realize that comprehensive sex education and birth control access would reduce abortions far more than the path they blindly follow. Of course they're not encouraged or taught to think critically. Women will have abortions even if they're outlawed again so working to reduce the unwanted pregnancies is the real solution, but they ignore reality and keep reducing their quality of life with each election.

    Nah, I think that's a strawman.

My previous post was pretty scathing and openly hostile to Moore voters' attitudes. It just didn't frame them as silly little Alabamans who just don't know better. National or regional insecurities can fuel bad politics no matter how right you think you are to patronise them in light of the standard of their poltiics. There was a real risk in the campaign that excessive outside influence, in the form of money, press coverage and just popular attitudes in other states would backfire and turn the race into a question of Alabamans versus carpetbaggers, rather than a paedophile who hates the law against a decent, rights-conscious lawyer.

It does not say that 'we're all equally bad anyway', it says that nobody likes to listen to people who more or less just bullied them for being stupid. Judgement doesn't make them act in bad ways, but it does make it much harder to criticise Moore for inherently bad qualities, because when Moore's criticism seems to come from a place of disdain for Alabamans in general, he represents a form of resistance and patriotism.

People do not follow politics as much as you seem to do. People do not know how to distinguish true from false sources very well. Cultural attitudes, including pride, matter.

Trump supported him, of course, because they have a lot in common. Republicans are now like a cult, determined to vote for their own kind no matter what.
    Thankfully, this asshole didn't win.

I'm so glad Doug Jones won. I knew it was over for Roy at one of their rallies where his wife goes "one of our attorneys is a Jew."

As a moderate Republican and former Senate staffer, the thought of a psycho pedophile in the U.S. Senate terrified and saddened me. The Senate certainly has its problems, but Roy Moore would have been an absolute freak show who would've caused major chaos and tarnished an amazing institution.

    Bullet dodged.
