    Hey brainwashed,

I don't believe it. Some people yes, but others no. I have several friends who I was surprised to find out after knowing them for a year or so that they were gay -- one of them rents a room from me. Some people are easy to spot, but like all the other shades under the Rainbow, we are all different, and some people just do not have the stereotypical "signs."

I too have my doubts. But I do keep an open mind.

Just so you’re aware, there is already a thread made specifically on this topic. The The Guardian article in particular is linked there.

I have a gaydar and a bidar, and they are both very accurate.
I sincerely believe it is an evolution to help queer people survive in an environment that is obviously hostile to us. In some extreme cases, having a gaydar can make the difference between life and death.
However, one needs more than just a picture to be able to tell. It's often in how people interact with each other, who they look at more insistently in social environments, etc.

This is the #1 way I can figure it out. Watch people when they walk into a room, straight guys will usually look at the nearest girl and gay guys often will look at the nearest guy. It's only noticeable for a second but it's their subconscious way of seeking approval from the gender they're attracted to. It's also telling when you're in a crowded place and notice a guy going out of his way to look at a particular other guy because he thinks the crowd will make him invisible enough for people to not notice him checking the guy out.

This is so fascinating to me. I feel like I am pretty good at this. I would love for someone who did not know my orientation to identify me. Who knows, maybe it would have helped me when I didn't know if someone had told me I blipped on their radar.

I don't think anyone has ever identified me either. If they did, they never said a word about it.

Yes and yes and yes!
When I'm out with my husband, I can identify gay men, straight men, and bi men based on if they look at him, at me, or both... My husband isn't good at it at all because he's straight. I always have to tell him when a waiter was obviously flirting with him or things like that.
If we go to a queer environment, he just assumes everyone is gay. I sometimes have to tell him, "I can definitely tell you this man is not gay. He's bi."
=p I love testing my gaydar and my bidar. It's good practice. ;-)

So you are saying that if I walk in a room and look at a guys crotch it will give me away. What if I then check out a girls butt. Will that give me cover. I need to know these things before I make a huge social mistake. In all honesty, I usually check out the girls first, but I get around to the guys eventually

This morning I had breakfast at a cafe and I kept holding eye contact with our waiter. Neither of us are “obviously gay” but I felt like an instant recognition between us.
I called him sir which I never usually do.
Like “thank you sir!” when he brought us stuff.

I’m on vacation so I guess I feel a little more outgoing.

There's definitely a such thing as a gay face, gay voice, etc.

Hmm, I feel kinda broken because I'm a gay and yet I do not believe that I have a gaydar. Probably because I'm just so oblivious and absent from life in general, haha. I really don't notice much, especially flirtations. What looks like flirting from someone else's POV, to me, just looks like someone being nice and friendly to me lol. I'm hopeless. I really don't know if anyone's gay unless they come out and tell me directly or if they're super obvious in their same-sex attraction

I have heard about a bi haircut. Apparently it's a shoulder length hairdo. *Looks in mirror at own hair and slowly back away.* lol

I can spot a gay man, who is straight acting. He just smiles less.
