For the past few weeks -actually, since I started identifying as genderfluid- I've been hearing the whole "You have lady bits, you're a girl!" speech from a lot of people. A lot. It's been really hard to deal with. But on Saturday I spent the whole day with my father, a rare event. We ended up going to Ulta (a cosmetics store if you don't know it) and this happened as we were leaving: Dad: Hold the bag. It's too feminine for me. Me: What if it's too feminine for me, too? Dad: Well then we have a problem. He pauses. I freeze. Dad: Because then how are we going to get this out to the car? He then proceeded to tell me all about how he'd accept me no matter what I choose to be. His exact words were "If I don't accept you, who will?"
It was! It actually made me cry. I was so happy. I think he suspects my gender and sexuality, which kinda makes it easier.
