I will be uploading and enabling the new front page, resources section, news section and member info system over the next half hour. Please excuse any temporary problems during that time.

I will post here again when it is completed.

As I'm sure you have noticed, this is now done. Comments welcomed.

There will be further tweaks to the front page etc over the next few days.

In particular I want to add a few photos, so suggestions and contributions are welcomed.

I'd really like to be able to control the width of the forum pages... I'm someone (maybe in a minority) who prefers relatively narrow text. Is there some way the width could be made relative to one's browser window?

If you choose "Wide Style" from the dropdown at the bottom left or set it permanently in your profile it will size itself to 97% of full screen width (this is for the forum only, the rest is fixed width).

I like the gray color in the background a lot better. It makes the site a lot easier to view. The matching homepage is also a plus.

I don't know if this is possible or not, but I think it makes the page look more complete if the white at the top extends fully to the top of the browser window, as with the blue extending all the way at the bottom. Right now it seems sort of cut off. Otherwise, I like it.

Edit: Oh, and I don't mean to be super critical, but I think the grey should be lighter, too. I saw someone else suggest that somewhere.

I like it, but I miss the other style.

    With the hardcore vintage print
And little light buttons instead of the note-boards thing.

I'm not so big fan of the new width of the forum pages...But I guess it's something I'll get used to later on.

I love the new front page!! It finally feels like EC(well, at least to me).
And I'm so happy to see that there is Members tag on top:slight_smile:

    Good Job!!!! Paul!!!!

I liked the old style but it looks better now that it all matches with the forum as well.
    Well done, Paul

Great work paul!! Yeah the only thing I'm not a big fan of is the gray background...is there any way to just expand it to the end? or else i wonder what it would look like if it were white..

It is a lighter grey than the screenshot where someone suggested making it a bit lighter. It needs to be dark enough to focus your attention to the centre and frame the main info, but not so dark as to be depressing or dull. I could go a tad lighter but let's see what others think over the next few days.

I think it's worth allowing people to get used to it for a few days first.

That's probably the "Tech" style. Only about a dozen people were using it and it was missing many of the features as it never got updated as the site was tweaked and things added. Because it was so under-used and would have been a lot of work to get it up to date it was easier to get rid of it and stick with the one the majority are using.

One thing I should have mentioned yesterday though, is that because the whole site now uses the forum stylesheet and layout etc, if we do find a vBulletin skin we like in future it would be easier to apply that to the whole site.

You can expand it width-wise as described in post #6, then set your browser window as wide or narrow as you wish and the main section will fill it.

If I had added any favouritism bias to it, it would be showing your cute face nearly every time! (*hug*)

Actually I am going to tweak it a bit. Currently it shows people who have been active in the last 90 days, but I'll change that to the last 30 days later. Then it will show the people who are currently active. I may even reduce it to 14 days... It only shows members who have at least 10 forum posts.

I will also fix the bug you mentioned in the mods area (where the blogs thing on the Members tab doesn't reflect username changes) later.

Everything looks fine to me, only major notice for me is the width, which I like. I don't feel any different to the colours anything.

    Home page is nice!

But I get [see attached]. This is probably a problem on my part. The links still work, but they're just smothered in red. :S

    Otherwise I don't see any problems. ^^

P.S How horrible is the quality on JPEG files. :frowning2:

What operating system and browser are you using?

If it's something old like Netscape 4 or Internet Explorer 4 then you will have problems due to their poor support of stylesheets. Try Firefox.
