My erectile dysfunction on Effexor has gotten pretty bad

I was on Effexor for a few days and was having side effects so I switched to Luvox..if it doesn't go away or gets worse you could always talk to your doctor about the dosage, or another med. Good luck!

 

Unfortunately, Viagra (or any other ED med) won't work in this instance.

You need to call the doctor who prescribed it and tell him that you're having this side effect and that you want to try a different med, if possible.

About 50% of guys on SSRIs and SNRIs complain of problems with erections or difficulty ejaculating. Most of time if the problem is severe and is interfering with your sex life, your physician may opt to try a different med. You may find that the side effects are less with a different anti-depressant- sometimes it takes a trial of a few different meds to find the one that resolves the depression and has the least amount of side effects.

 

@jsmurf Viagra and....w/e are prescriptions right? .... could you afford them if you had like a discount card for prescriptions?

 

I'd be careful to 'mix' drugs anyway.I am on Effexor as well and fortunately don't have any problems but wouldn't want to take anything non-described/discussed by my GP 'cause it might affect you and lessen the effects of Effexor/

Good job haha, i had the exact same problem a few months ago i could maintain an erection but couldn't you know what, the main thing was i just lost interest half way through!. Scared me also!.

 

No, its really confusing. My sex drive was completely gone but just recently it returned and heightened, i alway have sex dreams and when i wake up im very VERY horny but i can't do nothing about it, rarely can i ejaculate and when i do its amazing.

What I've seen male patients describe on SSRIs is a feeling of detachment. Often they're able to get erections but they either can't feel pleasure or it's a feeling like their penis doesn't feel like it's attached to their brain.

It's this detached feeling that often makes it difficult to rev up and ejaculate. One patient described is as, "I wanted to come but then again, I didn't really care".

A change in dosage or a trial of a different med may help. They all have side effects and each person responds to each drug differently.

 

A couple years back, I was on Luvox and I think after a just a few days or maybe a couple weeks I noticed the sexual side effects. I did read that of the SSRIs, Luvox typically has the least. Does Luvox not have any negative sexual side effects for you?

 

I'm not aware of any evidence of permanent changes from the drugs. The sexual symptoms (the good ones or the bad ones) seem to subside a few days after stopping the drug.

 

Nope..the only side effect I have is drowsiness and some constipation issues.

 

I have been off of Effexor for 3 weeks now, I can get an erection and cum in about 30 seconds alone, but I cannot get an erection with my fiancé....any advice would be helpful. honestly this whole situation has mad me suicidal and I'm due to be married in march. help please....

Viagra doesn't even help.

 

Ask about wellbutrin, it is a popular antidepressant because it doesnt tend to kill sex drive.

 

Prozac is like this. Better erections, but I couldn't cum until a couple hours. Had to go to Wellbutrin.
