Most depressing video game deaths

Dom from the Gears of War franchise.

 

Don't know why but the alternate endings in GTA V hit me hard. Of course Red Dead is on a whole other level

 

Not a video game, but does anyone know that one text game where the goal is to kill yourself?

 

Hmm... not sure if this counts but the "Drawn to life, the next chapter" ending on DS.

All though it doesn't really count as a death since none of the characters actually existed because they were figments of the imagination of a young boy in a coma. Throughout the game certain characters go around stealing all the colour from the in-game world and it seems like they are just doing it to cause trouble, however towards the end it is revealed that they only did it because they wanted to make the boy's mental state worse so they could survive because, if the little boy woke up then it would cause everyone to die even though they were never really alive in the first place since they're not real. So in effect you helped kill everyone by bringing the colour back to their world, but by doing so you helped a young boy out of a coma. So I guess in a way it's a happy ending, just a depressing way to go about it.
