Those two religions are espoused by some people in our community, edy. What you are saying is highly offensive.

I'm not sure where he said he hated them for their religious beliefs. There's a difference between having negative feelings toward a religion and its doctrine and hating people for their beliefs. Not saying I agree with edy's dismissive attitude, but let's not act as if he's calling for hatred of religious people.

Even so, don't religious people practice the exact same attitude? They hate the sin, but not the sinner. One can hate homosexuality without hating homosexuals, in other words (not that "hate" was even implied in these examples, but nonetheless, this is supposed to be the principle). If it is possible for religious people to do this, it must also be possible for the non-religious.

Not even one mention on how gay men are the best hair dressers? Heresy.

Anyone else notice that the media immediately jumped on the "ISIS" angle but almost completely ignored that this guy was most likely motivated out of pure homophobia? (ISIS was only a bolster to his pre-existing prejudices, most likely). Some news sites did not even mention that it was a gay club.

Not necessarily. There's many Christians that don't even believe homosexuality is a sin.

But even if they do believe it's a sin, I don't see the problem as long as they treat others with respect and dignity?

If you look at religion only for the bad aspects, all you will see are the bad aspects. If you look at it for the good aspects, then you will only see the good aspects. There are good and bad parts of religion. In most cases, the good outweighs the bad. In cases like these, they do not. However, we should not demonize an entire religion just because of the actions of a few. We don't want to be stereotyped, so we should not do the same to another minority group.

That all being said, let's remember to keep this discussion respectful to those who do practice a religion. The last thing that is needed at this time is more pain.

The media loves fear mongering. Anything to get more views and money. They could omit any aspect of the story and would do so if it means more $$$

This is terrible news. It just goes to show you that legalising same sex marriage does not solve the harassment, discrimination, murder, killings of the lgbt community.

    Bingo.

And I am making the exact same argument for those who dislike Christianity and religion. You can dislike them without disrespecting the people. However, it would be natural sometimes for the line to be blurred (in either case here). If you truly believe something is repugnant (be it homosexuality or religion), it can be difficult to not let that show in your actions and attitude toward those people.

All I can say is that I'm so very sad, heartbroken, and angry at what occurred. I've been crying all day.

Today, I went out into my city as an open gay person, for a moment of silence, and I'll do the same tomorrow at a vigil.

Jesus... I can only imagine. But just going to echo everyone else in here. Don't beat yourself up because you weren't there. I'm really glad you're safe and here to post this thread in the first place.

Visited a family member today and we discussed this tragedy. We also talked about the transgender bathroom situation, and crazy Trump supporters in general. It didn't make me feel better really but still it was good to talk about. Its all so heavy right now.

I think on top of all the tragedy of the victims and people who lost their lives, is the fear that is spreading. People on these forums, or other social media sites, and in person saying how they're afraid to go outside. Afraid to go to their local Pride events, one of the few widespread celebrations of who they are. Afraid to simply exist.

I believe safety should come first. Be cautious, and aware. But these violent extremists shouldn't be able to stop lgbt+ people from having a good time or expressing themselves. Its a scary time but if we're silenced from fear, or doubt ourselves because we're frightened to step outside then that shooter has won. That's how terrorism works, to stop by violence, force, fear. Again I stress safety but don't let this heinous act kill your celebration.

I just read an article about the critical demand of blood for those wounded in the incident. As they said, most gay guys can't give blood, so they have to hope their allies will.

It was a relief to see the endless lines of blood donors, however, waiting to give their blood to those poor victims. If anyone can give blood, please do.

If I hadn't already given blood about 2 weeks ago, I would have went to my local center.

    I agree.

Terrorism is literally about spreading fear to the point where we will no longer go about life normally and give in. If you interrupt your daily life due to fear, they win.

Be alert, but don't let them stop you from living your life.

I was reading something on social media about people having to shut off all the phones of the dead bodies because they were ringing. That image has been in my mind all day.

Do we commit some crime by just existing?
    According to them, we do.

I hate the human race sometimes. Such mindless hatred...
My heart goes out to the families and friends of those wounded or killed.
