This was the first thing that came up on my phone this morning, and I've been consistently on edge all day. Sometimes in the liberal place I live in, I forget that there are people who want to hurt people like us, and who won't ever see me as anything other than a porn category.

This is horrible. I hope they are safe now.

This case is an example of how lesbians frequently suffer not only for being part of the LGBT+ community, but also for being women in a world dominated by men. It's important for us, LGBT+, to communicate with other movements, like feminists, which is clear in cases like this, but also movements in defense of black people's rights, worker's rights and others. All disfavoured groups have unique details, but there are many times when we should work together to fight prejudice and avoid cases like this (or to demand justice for the victims).

I'm not trying to change the subject here. It's just that cases like this one are revolting, and makes me think how we still need to fight for the right to be who we are without fear. We are advancing, but we still have a long way to go.

The ugly truth is all those groups are likely defending themselves from the same (or at least a heavily overlapping) group of people. See also the straight pride parade being organized by white nationalists in Boston.

This is really horrible and I hope there is sufficient video on the bus and streets to identify the guys. I agree violence against women and minorities is related. Like a sense of power/advantage over others boosting one's ego. Bullies do it as kids and as adults. Are they afraid their advantage is waning so they act out? Were they taught that we are worth less than them and if we don't conform to their standards then we deserve to be targeted?

How would they have reacted to a male couple kissing? Maybe they would have started something with anyone who triggered something in them at that time. Presumably they passed by other people that night and didn't assault them, or maybe they did. I dunno, but I just can't understand the thought process/emotions that lead you to assault someone. I'd feel super bad accidentally hurting someone so can't imagine doing it on purpose. Do they have no sense that hurting others is wrong? I hope everyone as messed up as they are get the help they need otherwise they'll do it again and propagate their hateful beliefs.

I'm really angry about this. I do wonder. what if it had been 2 gay men? Things like this should never happen but unfortunately they do. No person has the right to do this to another. ever. just for being who they. we are........wow. that's.......
If someone doesn't want to kiss another then in my book that's fine. That isn't my decision.

I found this article written by one of the women who were attacked

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/14/homophobic-attack-bus-outrage-media-white

She basically calls out the way people have been outraged by what happened to her, yet ignore similar instances involving members of the LGBT community who society has deemed less noteworthy than two cisgender, white, feminine lesbians (and she clarified that she’s bisexual). We should be equally as furious that these hate crimes happen when it happens to a trans woman of color, or a gender non conforming gay person, not just when it happens to someone society sees as the “right” kind of gay.

I'm really glad that she wrote that. My thoughts when the original story broke were that, without discounting what happened, there have been four transgender women of color killed in my home state in the last year and their murders generated nowhere near the press coverage. All people matter.
