For the women of EC, do you prefer to call yourself gay, lesbian or other?

I would like to use gay, because lesbian still sounds weird when I say it. But in french, we don't use gay for women usually, so yeah, I go with lesbian. Or I just say that I like girls and that's it xD

Either queer or gay. Lesbian seems formal in someway and it sounds weird when i say it

I've always thought if I was a lesbian I would just say queer. Gay implies male, lesbian doesn't sound right, so that leaves one thing by default.

This is off topic, but I never understood why lesbian and gay are differentiated. If someone is straight, bisexual, or trans, people assume either male or female....but not gay? I know our experiences are different, but it feels like separate labels divide us more.

I call myself a Lesbian.. and I will get to a point where I tell others that's what I am too. But I have told some people i'm gay. Honestly I like Lesbian more because I hate how gay implies a gay man more then a gay woman. Gay essentially means the same thing but like.. I don't know I just don't like it.

I like Lesbian because it sounds so erotic to me for some reason. I can understand why some women/girls don't like calling themselves Lesbian. It does come across rather strong.

I like to use lesbian usually. Sometimes I say gay, but I prefer lesbian.

    I prefer lesbian , I used gay sometimes .

Queer means not straight so I would stay away from that word ,because it doesn't provide detail information about which team I play for . Lesbian is straight to point that I'm only into chicks . With Queer it takes guessing I could either be bisexual , pansexual or lesbian .
Lesbian is a great way to let guys know they can not go pass go and collect 200 dollars .

I've never understood why there needs to be a distinction between gay and lesbian. But now I guess gay does imply men. But I prefer gay over lesbian still for some reason. Queer I think I like best since it gets the point across without having to go into detail how I feel about the whole issue of other people since I'm not exactly gay but also I'm not straight or bi.

I usually use 'gay,' and because where I live it's used as an umbrella term like 'queer.' Which is what I'm after, 'cause I like almost all genders and expressions.

I'm trying to switch it to queer - but lesbian isn't accurate.

So this may be confabulation as I can not recall the source, or even when I heard this, but I had thought I'd heard at some point in my life that the term "lesbian" came into use to create better visibility for the female gay community, as we were somewhat invisible compared to gay males in the past and thought to be a minority within a minority.

Regarding the terms themselves, I use them interchangeably in text. I haven't really managed to come out specifically as "lesbian" to anyone, just seems so much more difficult to say than "gay" when you're already having a hard time forcing words to come out.

I would rather just say I like girls. Short, sweet, and to the point. I mean, though I am out to two people at the time of writing this, saying I'm gay or lesbian just sounds weird to me. Though, if I did have to pick between the two, I would go with lesbian. Think about it. When someone says "gay", which is the first gender to pop into your head?

Situational - Ii flip flop between the two fairly regularly unless I'm in a group with gay guys; then I tend to use lesbian for clarity's sake.

Which is a shame, because I don't like the word 'lesbian' half the time. Like I may use it casually, but most of the time it feels gross and pornographic. I know it has history, but these days it just feels.....ick. I'd rather just use 'homosexual'

Even if we change everything and use the word gay for homosexual women, it's not gonna stop a heterosexual man , from thinking pornographic thoughts about us . It's not the word lesbian that the problem , it's society that's the problem we can call ourselves fairies for all we care it's not gonna change the fact that we are viewed as walking pornos .
I don't understand what it is with this generation that thinks not using a word gonna solve anything .:eusa_snoo
Not saying don't use gay queer or whatever but changing the word we used isn't gonna change how heterosexual men view us .
