Is Scar from The Lion King implied to be gay?

So about a year ago, my family was on a vacation, and my sister and I were jamming out to "Be Prepared". And my dad made a comment that Scar was obviously gay. He made it sound like it was totally obvious, and it made no sence to my sister or myself.

What do you all think?

he's not. It sounds to me like someone is interpreting a refined english accent as clear evidence of homosexuality.

I'd say flamboyant and possibly camp (like Jafar), but not gay. Scar is one of the greatest villains ever created though, a chess master villain with a disturbingly well plotted plan and Jeremy Irons is one of the best Disney voice actors I can think of.

God I want the Blu-ray release for The Lion King now.

Idk, I didn't think so either. Scar is just my second favorite disney villian. My favorite by far is Hades from Hercules.

 

I've always thought of him as gay... Dunno why.

 

I read some scholarly article about how Disney villains almost always have a foreign accent (to Americans), or may break gender stereotypes. It mentioned Scar, but I'm not sure how strong of an example he is of a "gay" villain. He does speak somewhat effeminately compared to James Earl Jones (who doesn't?), and he's thin.

A better example of how gender non-conformity is applied to Disney villains is Ursula from the Little Mermaid. She's based on Divine, the drag queen:

I guess theres one bit of evidence that could suggest that hes gay. While Simba was away for all those years, Scar never had a baby of his own. He ruled the Kingdom and was the only male Lion surrounded by all those hot Lioness babes.

Either he is unable to procreate or he is gay.

Wait, what about Timon and Pumbaa? They're seemingly both "single bachelors" who choose to stay together for years. I mean, for God's sake, one of 'em is played by Nathan Lane!

 

I've always had a really big crush on Ursula and now I know why.

He's not gay BUT (random fact coming at you) he does make an appearance in Hercules, as a head dress. XD. Just thought I would enlighten you all.
