i know several people who have sold things on there without a problem. i wouldn't save anything for anyone, first come first serve & have someone there with you when the buyer is there. better safe than sorry.
Well, here's some tips. -Meet up in a location in public, not by your house. You can put the recliner in a pickup truck if you have to. If you have to borrow somebody's truck, do it. It's not worth allowing a stranger to know your address. Same goes for the other way around. Don't meet at the person who you are going to sell the item to at their house. -Bring somebody with you, doesn't matter who it is. A brother, sister, cousin, etc. Safety in numbers. If you want to add an extra layer of security, tell someone at home or a friend who you and your sibling/friend are meeting up with and where you're going so they know. Or you can go by yourself and tell somebody where you're going.
I buy and sell stuff on Craigslist all the time. For a recliner, it's not going to be easy to meet in public, so people will likely have to come to your house. Personally, I've gone to many people's houses to buy things, and had people come over when I'm selling things. Yes, there are risks, but for the most part I think it's reasonably safe.
My experience has been pretty much like this. Never had a problem. Just don't accept any form of payment other than cash
Like what Chip said, there are risks. I highly recommend you have someone with you in the house when you're having someone come over to check your recliner. That way you're not alone and if things get nasty, at least you have someone to help you.
Yeah, buying and selling things isn't bad. Just have someone with you and request cash upfront. I've even used Craigslist to find jobs (although you have to be careful about not falling into scams).
I've sold a bunch of stuff on Craig's list and never had any issues, other than annoying potential buyers. When I've sold furniture or something too large to be practical to meet somewhere, if possible, I've tried to move it to a location where I don't have to let the person into my house....like the garage. I'd agree that it's best to have someone with you if possible. I really think the vast majority of people on Craig's list are just normal people trying to buy and sell stuff, but doesn't hurt to be cautious. I actually am much less nervous about having people come to my house to look at things than I am about going to other people's houses. I guess because I'm on my own turf.
thanks for the advice guys, i'll get my boyfriend to come with me and we'll use his truck, once again thanks for helping me stay safe.
I've bought a handful of things from Craigslist, but never sold. I always take a friend with me. Also many police departments have an area set up, for trades and selling. Usually it is a couple of parking spots in the front of the station with video monitoring. That that would be difficult with a recliner, though.
