This has been going on for decades. It makes me extremely angry. I have so much I want to say about this atrocious industry and the culture that created and maintains it... I just hope those who survived it are able to recover and find their place in the world.

I know two people who survived these torture chambers. One was shipped offshore, where he was stuck until a few months *after* his 18th birthday. Both have suffered enormously. One (the one who was shipped offshore) committed suicide at 27.

These places persist because of lax laws (particularly in Utah), lobbying at the federal level, payoffs to local officials. I really would like to get inside the heads of the corrupt people that run them. (There is one large company that runs many of them, and carefully covers up its ownership. People have been trying to shut them down for years.)

There's a very well researched book on the topic. I have it and have read it, but don't have it handy. Pretty sure it's easy to find if you Google it.
