It's 50 years since the British government decriminalised sexual relationships between two men and to mark the occasion the BBC is running a Gay Britannia season of programmes and news articles.

In this article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-40643461 some gay people talk candidly about their experience of homophobic hate and aggression in the UK (may be upsetting), but if you can, read down towards the end about one man's journey around the world, planting single pansies in locations where people have suffered homophobic and transphobic hate, violence or death. It's emotional, but very touching.

So if you see a single pansy growing somewhere, Paul Harfleet has probably visited to mark the spot where LGBT people have been assaulted or killed. The BBC article includes a link to The Pansy Project website.

This is very cool! Thanks for sharing!

Well, the hate crimes part isn't very cool but the little bit of a memorial for all those people is incredibly thoughtful.

Even though some parts of it were very painful to read it ended with a really beautiful story.

I read the article in the link below today and it actually made me really angry. These young guys were simply going about their lives and had to put up with this sort of abuse:

The story at the end was beautiful. It's good that these people are remembered.
