First off, read this if you haven't:
    http://emptyclosets.com/forum/showthread.php?p=136907

Anyway, I just got off the phone with my parents (19 minute conversation). They watched the Superbowl in the family room on the big screen then the letter got lost with some other stuff on the bed so they didn't read it until around 11 pm.

Anyway, they're accepting and I'm so happy. I couldn't have better parents. My dad said it wasn't quite a surprise because he knew something was up and he was sad I spent 4 years not enjoying my life and felt like I couldn't tell them. He also said that it was one thing for him to be supportive but it was another to guide me since he didn't know what to do and said some of it is still a mystery to him (he's still accepting) so he suggested I talk to the school psychiatrist (not in a bad way) or someone who would understand and help. In my letter I wrote that I was just "me" and that I wouldn't ever be promiscuous or a druggie and he said that's the most important thing. My mom said that she was happy that I could open up to them and that she didn't love me less-- she loved me more. And that I still couldn't date yet (but I asked her if I could date in college and she said yes. Before she said I could only date after college, lol).

And no internet dating. Sorry Tezzy Bear. I guess if I move to Australia it won't be online. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

So they said I can talk to them anytime . . . I'm so happy. :icon_bigg

Congratulations Cooper. It is so nice to see parents that are loving and accept their children no matter who they are. Welcome to the out crowd.

I felt exactly like your dad does when my son came out. (*hug*) that's for your dad. Most of us parents do just want our kids to be happy but it is not always easy to convey this in a non interfering manner. Good for you and good for your parents!

Thanks for all your support guys!

Ah, I forgot the best part. My mom said, "You're still young and you have a lot to experience . . . NOT SEXUALLY." :roflmao:

Wow!! Be sure to tell Mom & Dad they're the next "poster kids" for "acceptance!!" Realize too, your story is an inspiration for others to follow!! Congratulations to both you and your family!

You sound like you've already "mastered" the "key". You seem to have a good opinion of yourself. In other words you accept you for you. Most guys your age really struggle with this one, giving rise to delaying their coming out process and creating huge self esteem issues.

This is great news for you, enjoy the ride!!

    Stay Strong & Press On!!

Remember.......no "pride stickers" on Mom's car.......yet........give her a week or two! Lol :eusa_danc

That is awesome Cooper! Now, please tell your parents about PFLAG. They have a great chapter in Houston! It will give your Dad some more understanding and it sounds like your parents could become strong advocates!

Yeah, I'll definitely tell them about it. I looked at the website and they meet at the church across from the MFAH and Houston Museum of Natural Science so my parents are down there a bit.
