LGBT News Huge news for Hungary. Bad for me. Good for Orbán

This is a classic example of populist leaders uniting people under a common banner by tapping into a shared prejudice. Therefore, their populist leaders can give the impression that they are on the side of the majority, a majority who will then lose sight of the fact that their leaders are not acting in their best interests in many other aspects of their lives. In other words making Pride illegal is being used as a distraction.

Hungary is just one of the countries where this is happening and it's nothing new, but it's worrying because history is being ignored by huge numbers of people around the world, many of whom will even deny prejudice in all forms, while simultaneously expressing their fear at society being turned on its head because some people from another country want to live in their country, some people want to follow a different religion from their own, some people have a different skin colour, or some people are attracted to other people of the same gender.

And for some reason, the notion that somebody should feel uncomfortable with, and seek to change, the gender that was assigned to them on the basis of their genitalia at birth, is somehow considered abhorrent to the continuation of human existence because they are going against the will of a higher being or against nature.

Meanwhile, cosmetic enhancements are considered a perfectly acceptable way to defy nature and, despite the fact that most religions advocate love, understanding and tolerance, their adherents display the opposite through hatred, ignorance, intimidation and violence. The contrast leaves me wondering at times if I exist in a parallel universe to the one I see in front of me and I just wish that the majority of people would wake up from their stupor and realise that they are being taken for a ride. Perhaps then they can show some humanity towards others who cause them no harm.

 

thats awful. I hate how people always say that they want to "protect children", when really all they want to do is erase LGBTQ+ people in every way they can. As if "the gays" are actually harming their children. Yes, maybe the neo-nazis are living more pleasant lives than queer folks, but would you want to go around with no better purpose than hating people just for who they are? To me it seems like they never really accomplish anything worth remembering because they are so caught up in being terrible people. Its crazy how they claim that they want to make the world better, all while making others have to hide for fear of discrimination. I wish there was something I could do to change all that for you. But since i can't, i'm just going to tell you that I (and the other EC members) are always here if you need to talk.

 

This is terrible news - I'm so sorry Matt. For what it's worth, I'll be sharing my first same sex screen kiss in the near future with a Hungarian-Canadian former child actor who is doing so at least in part to give certain members of his family as well as Orban the big middle finger. (For Americans of a certain age, and people who otherwise watched American tv back in the day, this is basically the gay after school special just where the two boys meet again after many years, and yeah kiss in the final scene...in the rain.)

I just read about it today in our news. Shows that they are behind. It was kinda alarming to read not only, because of doing that all, but also the fact that it is in our news. Like Estonian covernment always looks what other countries do (instead of being Estonia) and we have a party that has pulled these stunts before. It's called The Conservative People's Party of Estonia. They once made an lgbt+ event stop as they crashed it. That's why my city has 0 lgbt+ related stuff going on as they have lots of power here and Hungary is not too far from Estonia either. We just lately started allowing same sex marriages. It's all only a matter of time before they say good job Hungary, clap their hands and say hey we should do that as well.
