I am still in high school. I know 2 openly gay guys, 3 bisexual girls, and 1 trans girl. And I'm sure there are other gay guys that go to your school, they just aren't out yet.

Oh boy... so I am still in high school, and I go to this amazing school which is very accepting.

So there are like about 170 kids total at our school, and my rough estimate is that 85 - 95% of them are part of the LGBT community, and every single person is accepting of others, no matter who they are (if you aren't accepting, you don't stay long at my school bc everyone turns against you for your hate).

Just out of the people I talk to everyday there are: 3 pansexuals, 1 nonbinary dude, 1 asexual, 2 straight peoples (tho were pretty sure one of them is a closeted bi), and 2 binary dudes...

and that's just out of the people I hang around

How is this possible? Isn't the LGBT community like 10% or less of the population... for an entire school to be all LGBT seems impossible. Do they like specifically advertise it for LGBT kids or something?

nah, it's a school for "smart/special" kids, so the kids who go here tend to be kids who don't fit in with the regular crowd (which happens to be a lot of LGBT kids)...

also, after being at my school for a while (and when I first came here), you get the sense that gender doesn't matter, so lots of people discover they are more open to exploring (and many discover that they are gay/bi, while some realize that they are definitely straight)...

I never really thought about that though, so these are just my "spur of the moment" ideas

There was two out gay guys at my school. And then like an additional three that I knew where gay but didn't come out until after high school. I was never friends with any of them, tbh.

I count at least 11 out gay/bi people at my school but I don't know everyone by any means. I am not aware of any trans people that are out. I would know more gay / bi people if I attended the GSA meetings.

Statistics would say there are multiple schools that are coincidentally that way by virtue of math and the huge sample set of the United States.

In high school I would say there were 15 or less LGBT peers including the ones who were still in the closet, lol, actually most of them were in the closet including myself. It was a sort of small h.s. however, maybe near 1400 kids.

Well, it looks like I might not be alone after all. A guy who I always suspected was gay reportedly came out on social media a few weeks ago. I get along quite well with him and we share the same birthday.

No one was out, as it was an old blood kind of community, but I knew of one or two.

It now appears that there are 2 gay guys in my year, both out to respective friend groups. I think I will make it public next year.

Bad thing for me is that they are a bit more stereotypically gay than me, so that further emphasizes my point that I am not good enough to be a the "gay friend" of a girl.

I went to school in the 80s. I’m sure there were several but no one would be open about it, so I didn’t know any. Other than myself of course the idea of a trans person would have seemed preposterous

Don't worry about being a stereotypical gay friend. Just be yourself.

Being myself has got me nowhere in life, especially not in terms of making good friendships.

Now that I think about it, there must be a lot of closeted people at my school since I don't know many gay people at my school. However, I somehow managed to befriend three out of the five people who are open about their sexuality (that I know of.) They're pretty interesting people, to be honest.

There are probably just a lot of closeted people. Unless your school is progressive or you live in a lgbtq friendly environment, then there is a high probability that almost no one will be willing to come out while they're there. People prefer to be perfectly safe and comfortable, and to be honest, high school isn't a place where most feel happy and secure - much less when they come out because of the potential rejection of their personal identity.

My gay friends are pretty confident in themselves, so maybe that's why they feel comfortable to come out. I became friends with them since my friends knew them and I was some weird new student trying to make friends. To be honest, they tend to fit more on the stereotypical side of gay people but everyone is still open and friendly with them since they're nice people (there's nothing wrong with being a stereotype unless it involves a person being rude and mean).

Trust me, there are probably a lot more gay people then you think. They're just not willing to come out and most likely won't until they leave high school (my plans). Maybe if you're friendly enough, you'll meet a few gay people willing to come out for you. Just remember that they may not even come out even after you tell them you're gay. People go at their own pace.

It does appear that there are some gay guys in my year but it doesn't seem official. I do sort of resent the fact that they are more likely to get female/gay friends than I am though.

When I was in hs 04-08 i knew of 2 gay guys and 1 bi guy and 2 gay girls and a bunch of bi girls. Then after hs myself and a few other guys came out as gay. There were probably many more that I had no idea about because I didn’t know that many people tbh.
