how/from where did you pick your avatar?

I was looking for pictures of maple leaves for whatever reason, found this, and thought it looked pretty cool.

It's a red maple leaf made up of iconic Canadian things such as an inukshuk, a totem pole, the CN Tower, and so forth.

 

I'm a paleontology enthusiast and had a number of pictures from my travels on my computer, so I just grabbed one of a Tyrannosaurus rex statue I'd seen in Alberta once.

Just felt I wanted something to go with the dinosaur theme.

Oh, about that, I spent the entire last summer there and found Canada to be a refreshing change of pace from the USA. People are just more open and friendly. *gives approving nod to Jakob*

I've been changing my avatar a lot recently. The one I have currently is the "Heart of Kandrakar" from the show W.I.T.C.H.

I used to be a major fan of that show and watch it obsessively when I was younger. In fact, I pretty much know a lot of the episodes off by heart. Yeah, I'm sad.

The show is a continuous version of events (i.e. it has continuity and it's not just a series of random events like Sponge bob square-pants) and it is heavily plot driven. But, if you're willing to put in the time to watch it then I'd say it's well worth the watch. I always liked the humorous and also the serious emotional side of the show. The characters were quite likeable and interesting to watch too. The only thing I didn't like about the show is that it started to get a bit weird at the end. But...I'm not going to spoil that. :icon_wink Don't worry.

The show follows the formula of five magical girls trying to save the world. Although this is quite a commonly used trope (magical girl anime comes to mind) it can be used quite well I think, that is if it's done properly. It's not always girls either. I know the show "Nowhere boys" had a similar premise with a group of teenage boys have elemental powers (fire,water,air, earth) and they even had a talisman like in W.I.T.C.H.

There were a few differences between the two (like having a different story, them being male and the fifth member having different yet similar powers, also the one who controls fire in Nowhere boys is the one who controls the talisman, whereas in W.I.T.C.H. it was the one who controlled the heart (among other things) so yeah).

The Heart of Kandrakar brings the five girls together, and transforms them- and since this is a place of uniting and helping people I thought that it would be fitting.

Also I got Pukwudgie on Pottermore and since that's supposed to be like the "heart" of a witch/wizard it made me think of it so I made this my avatar.

Mine is an old avatar of the poetry blog i had years ago. I don't know how i found it but i still love to use it ... there is some weird sort of nostalgia whenever i see it xD

 

My avatar is Edie Sedgwick. Her story really resonated with me personally when I was younger. She's stunningly beautiful and was so far ahead of her time. She's someone I admire quite a bit actually, though she had many faults.

My current avatar is from a video game and anime series called Danganronpa. His name is Nagito Komaeda and He's one of the central characters in the 2nd game and in the danganronpa anime currently airing.
