I thought it was Don Qui-shot, which is the proper french way of pronouncing it, but my coworker told me yesterday the proper way is the spanish way, which is Don Qui-ho-tay.

:/ so which way is the right way?

Your co-worker is right. Because it is a Spanish name, you pronounce it an a Spanish way: Don Kee-Ho-Tay.

i like how you say 'pronounce it the spanish way' when "don kee-ho-tay" is the Anglicised pronunciation.

the real spanish pronunciation is more like "don kee-ho-teh"

I concur. However, "quixotic" (which comes from Quixote) is pronounced "quicks-otic" Yay for consistency

In modern spanish, it's as everyone else has been saying above, but in old spanish and early modern spanish, it would be kee-sho-teh
