It's definitely a possibility. I think she's also trying to look out for me. My style isn't traditionally feminine. She's warned me about how I could get mistaken for a guy and get harassed. My mom has short hair and isn't traditionally feminine, her words not mine, and she was referred to as a 'tranny' once. I think that sort of thing sticks with you.

My hair is very high maintenance, not just because it swells. I can't put any oil on it, excluding the essential oil in my shampoo, and or use conditioner. I have to be careful about some shampoos too. These cause it to swell as well. My hair also soaks up most oil and tends to get very dry. It has to be braided right away. If I go bed without braiding, it'll be all over my head when I wake up. Progressively getting worse the more the more this continues. It's a pain in the @$$. I've even been considering locking my hair up again.

I'm sorry you had to experience that.

Not sure if she's looking out for you or being malicious when she's referring to you as "tranny". I'm sorry you have to deal with those words. My style is whatever I feel like but it mostly comes off masculine.

My hair is also high maintenance. I'm don't even think the oil I put in my hair stays that long. I cut my hair because it was too much work and I sweat a lot on my head. I've tried to loc my hair but I ended up sweating them out.

You're mistaken .I apologize if I wasn't clear enough. My mother was the one who was called a 'tranny'. She's never called me derogatory remarks.

I go between short & long quite often. I think I've spent most of my life with short hair, but I've had it long for several years now. A few years ago, I grew my hair to my shoulders, and then I shaved half of it into a sidecut. It was pretty awesome, and I loved it...but I can't have that sort of style for work. These days I just have my hair long. I don't style it though...I just brush it and put it up in a bun or ponytail lol. I've been thinking of going short again though, maybe even with a bit of an undercut or sidecut again (but something professional enough for work also).

About a two years ago I cut mine off at my chin and shaved one side. Just felt like it. Now I am growing it back out and it is now down past my neck.

I prefer it short due to practicality and humidity. But, I have thick hair at the back so it still feels hot at times.

I cut and style my hair using the above as reference. And I am actually quite in love with my hair these days.

I usually keep my hair shoulder-length...well, it tends to sit on my shoulders since it's fairly wavy/curly and tends to bounce up. When it's straight, it's actually a lot longer and sometimes I forget how long it actually is because it bounces up so much. I find it makes me look much older when I straighten it, and although I think it looks nice like that, I feel more comfortable when I have it like how it naturally is.

My hair and I...we have a love/hate relationship. People always say "I wish I had as much hair as you do!" but trust me, you don't. It tends to knot easily, and sometimes I just look in the mirror and think "Damn, I look so boring/bland today". It's hard to know what to do with it. I like it in a fishtail or a loose plait sometimes, but I find that to be fairly time-consuming now and then. *Shrugs* Usually I just keep it down/loose.

Honesty, I like my hair plain with a little hair dye to match my shirt. I personally like my hair in a ponytail if it weren't for damn short and thick. My hair is very thick and natural, so I'm used to it except for the combing part.

Mid-Shoulder length. Mostly. I'm still trying to find a way to keep it like that and not have bangs/fringes get in the way.

I'm always going back and forth between long and short. When I was kid I always wanted long hair, but my mom would always cut it. She wouldn't let it grow past my shoulders because I had very tangled up, curly hair. Shorter was just easier for her to manage. So as I began to deal with my own hair I let it grow. I spent most of my high school years with long hair and then cut it over my shoulders as I started college.

I like my hair short. I had long hair for years, too much work for me!

I like my medium-length hair now 'cause it's a nice change and I've always worn my hair long. I don't think I'll ever go back to having long hair :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: too much of a hassle

I typically do 1 1/2" on the sides and back, and 3" on top.

I've had the same haircut for quite a few years now; quite short.

I've been thinking about growing it out a bit, just so that I can say I've tried "long" hair. But I'm not sure I'll be able to put up with anything other than quite short hair. We'll see.

They just run over it with a 2-guard. It looks good at any length.

Long and layered, that's what looks best on me. My hair easily hits the lower part of my back.
