So I'm kind of addicted to two flavours of Tic-Tac and I was wondering how unhealthy it is. The thing is, when I don't have it, I don't crave it or anything. But when I do have it, I HAVE to eat it and when I see it I HAVE to buy it. I realise I should be exercising more self control but it's sort of hard... Anyway, I get through a LOT of it. Is it actively unhealthy? Also the two I'm addicted to are fruit flavoured ones, not mint ones. I dunno if that really makes a difference but yeah.
Um, I wouldn't say it's dangerous at all lol. Just make sure you're brushing your teeth I guess so you don't get cavities. I've been addicted to gum for years and I've been fine
Wow... that's a bit. Here is some information on it from a biochemical standpoint. Tic tags contain various coloring agents and some people may not agree with eating too many food dyes and they are outlawed in many countries. So that's one thing to consider. However each box of tic tacs weighs approximately let's say 18 grams. A 100 gram serving is 391 kcal (or 391 Calories as most people know it). So mathematically figuring it out at say an average of 5 packs a day you roughly consume 400 calories a day from eating 5 packs. This is like eating 1 and a half snickers a day or a McDonald's hamburger. But wait they are sugar free. No, that is a legal technicality but they do contain sugar. Each tic tac contains 0.5 grams or less of sugar thus the FDA allows for it to be rounded down to 0 and be said to have no sugar. This is incorrect. There is sugar in tic tacs. So while it's not the worst addiction by far, don't think that it isn't adding anything to your diet.
You don't seem to need it physically. Like, I imagine if Tic Tacs discontinued or your access to them was cut off, you wouldn't suffer from any withdrawal symptoms. But yeah. If you're concerned, maybe dial down a box or two and try to reduce the amount you're going through? I'm the same way with sugar- to the point where if I don't get my fix, I'll dig spoonfuls out of the sugar bowl.
Jesus Christ, check in to a clinic already o__o Seriously though, stop buying Tic-Tacs and find something to replace the habit.
Try chewing gum instead? There's a lot of options for fruit flavored sugar free gum, and chewing it might get your mind off wanting tic tacs.
The thing is I don't mind not having them if they aren't around, but if they are I just feel like I have to have them. And if I see them in a shop (if I have money) I have to buy them. But I can try gum thanks. Also I shall try a little harder to eat/get less of it thanks everyone.
Except Tic Tacs are tablets of sugar rather than blocks of sugar. But I just wanted an excuse to post that. It probably isn't even vaguely funny unless you know who Leslie Knope is. Do excuse the tangent. You probably shouldn't be eating that many Tic Tacs, no.
