Hi! I joined this website a few months ago, I think, but I hadn't done more than read other people's posts until yesterday. I don't really wanna give my real name, for anonymity's sake, so you can call me Elizabeth. I'm (probably) a lesbian; honestly, if I'm bisexual, there's a huge disparity between my attraction to men and to women, but let's not get into that.

A couple of things about me:

The one thing that gives my life meaning is reading - I've run out of bookshelf space in my room and have resorted to stacking books on top of them, stacking books on my desk, and stacking books on the floor. The authors I like are...infinite, but I mostly read fiction, unless I'm reading feminist texts, and some authors I like are Virginia Woolf, Patricia Highsmith, Alan Hollinghurst, Donna Tartt, Dazai Osamu, Lillian Faderman, Mary Renault, Sarah Waters, Thomas Harris, Qiu Miaojin, Charlotte Bronte, Adrienne Rich, Sylvia Plath (her poems destroy me), Emily Dickinson (also for her poetry), and......countless others.

I also love good music. David Bowie is a favorite of mine - I like listening to Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars on my record player, and my favorite song from that album is Lady Stardust. (Which is also the song that introduced me to his music in the first place.) It's also nice to know that he was bisexual - it makes me feel connected with history, I suppose. Some other musicians I like are Cigarettes After Sex, Hozier, Tracy Chapman, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Lana del Rey, Mitski, and Marika Hackman. I really like dramatic, dark, classical piano music, too.

Anyway, it's nice to be on here, and nice to meet everyone! I hope I can gain a better understanding of myself through using this forum.

(Oh, I just checked my profile...I should have before I posted that. I didn't join a few months ago, but instead almost a year ago, lol, and the entire time I've only been lurking without posting.)

Elizabeth.....Hello and a great big LGBTQIA+ welcome to Empty Closets! I can remember the first post that I made on EC. I was desperate for help and I got the help that night that I so needed. I hope that we can help you in the same way that I received help. The most important thing to remember about Empty Closets is that we do care about you! We're very glad that you found us here on EC and hope that we can answer questions, give you support and provide a place to vent (as long as it's not violent!) :old_big_grin: when that becomes necessary!

*****It's nice to meet you! I'm a bibliophile too! I had so many books that they were completely over-running my office. So I converted to digital and gave all my hard copies (except for a few very special ones) to my sons! Sometimes I am reading two or three different books at a time! I also am a fan of Emily Dickinson...have been since high school! My favorites are fiction and history. As for music...I am a musician, having taught junior high and high school instrumental music for over 40 years. It's nice to meet a kindred spirit!

*****There are 18 different sub-forums here that you can check out and join in the conversations or start your own thread/conversation. When you have made at least 10 posts on various threads you will be able to post messages on a member's Profile Page. Just click on a member's Avatar Picture and then click on "Profile Page" in the dialogue box that pops up. You'll then be on their Profile Page and there will be a box that says: "Write Something" When you have been on EC for a few weeks and have made at least 50 posts on various forums, you can apply for Full Membership. A Full Member can send Private Messages (PM) to other Full Members and share personal contact info. Right now you can only send a PM to a Staff Member as that is always possible. Here is a quote from the Full Membership information forum: :old_cool:

*****To be eligible you must be a member of Empty Closets for a minimum of two weeks, and have a minimum of 50 posts. These posts must be across numerous forums (Fun & Games does not contribute to post count), and consistently posted across a minimum of two weeks. You wouldn't be eligible, for example, if you registered, had no activity for two weeks, and then returned to post 50 times on your 14th day of membership.

*****Well, as I said, we're very glad you found us! :old_rolleyes: If you have any questions at all, you can send me a Private Message.

Hey, thanks for your reply! It's cool you like books too. I've thought about getting a kindle, but the one I want is like 150 bucks and I just don't have the money for it. Maybe next Christmas. But yeah, I don't think I could ever give up my physical books totally. Even just keeping my favorites...I have far too many. Maybe some day it'll become a necessity, but for now, I'm happy with my crowded, book filled room. A kindle for traveling would sure be nice though. Getting rid of most of my books, however...No, I'm simply far too attached. And the texture of the pages, the smell of them, the smell of the binding/glue...I adore it all. And hey, I like history too! Mostly feminist history/lgbt history. It's awesome you're a musician. Sounds nice. I played flute for three years in school, then gave it up. I also did piano for a few years, then gave that up too. So, not too musical. But I can definitely appreciate music that other people make, haha.

Elizabeth.....Yes, it was tough giving up my "real" books! But I just no longer had any room to even move around! :old_big_grin: Speaking of music...I just gave a saxophone lesson to a very talented young boy this afternoon. It's exciting to see the love of music blossoming in a young teenager! I haven't really said much to you about Empty Closets...but we are very happy to have you with us! You might want to check out the forum that is titled "Sexual Orientation". I think your will find kindred souls there. Have a great weekend, and in case we don't talk again for a while...have a happy Thanksgiving too.

Hi and welcome! I like your profile name, lavender sunset too. I like to read as well, and like Sylvia Plath, and Emily Dickinson too! Do you like Margaret Atwood and Ursula K LeGuin? I also like David Bowie, Tracy Chapman, and Lana del Rey, as well as LP. I've been interested in Billie Holiday and she was bisexual. There are some interesting movies out about her. It's nice to meet you
