I am the mom of a son who is actively seeking to become my daughter. He is forthcoming with me about his feelings and needs, and I am in full support of my child, but I'm seeking guidance. Recognizing that this may not be the right forum for "mom", can anyone point me towards resources to help parents who want to do all they can to support their child? Neither of us really know where to start, and we are both learning. Any direction will be greatly appreciated. I only want what is best for my kiddo. Thank you....
Hello Momjen! Welcome to EC! Thanks for being such an understanding and accepting parent of an LGBTQ child! I can't tell you much about support for Transgender kids, but a place you might want to start is with PFLAG. You might want to download and read their pamphlet Out Children and check out their website to see if there is a chapter near you which should be able to help you find local resources and may hold support group meetings for parents of LGBTQ children. I hope that helps a little.
Thank you! It occurs to me that I should probably clarify that said child, while eternally "MY Bayyyyybeeee" is nearly 19 years old. Resources for him are also greatly welcomed. I appreciate your advice!
Hey I don't have any real advice for you unfortunately but EC is definitely a place you are more than welcome. I'm sure those with experience in this area will reply to you just give them a little bit of time . Welcome to EC.
It's great that you have a close enough relationship with your kid that she was able to come out to you. I can tell you that coming here was a good choice. As for resources, I will point you to http://www.transyouthequality.org. They have resources for the both of you. Just keep being supportive.
