Hey people of EC I've been discovering the music of Marilyn Manson and Souxsie and the Banshees more recently, and was wondering if any of you had any suggestions for immersing myself into gothic rock? Also, do Evanescence count as goth? Thanks all Peace
hey, there's a few bands you could start of with, and evanescence can somewhat be considered as goth - Sisters of Mercy - The Cure - Peter Murphy - Killing Joke - The Cult - Clan of xymox - Inkubus Sukkubus - HIM - Bauhaus
Thank-you! I think I may be too kawaii and too metal to be a full-time Goth, but would love to explore all this a little. Peace!

The day has finally come where I have found somebody else who knows "The Birthday Massacre"!! You're awesome!
If you like Evanescence then I would recommend Jillian and Within Temptation. Also I LOVE A Lot Like Birds and Icarus the Owl, but Birthday Massacre takes the cake for me!
Three bands usually come to my mind -The Cure They're THE classic gothic band in my book, with songs like Boys Don't Cry and Lullaby. I don't really listen to them that much but those two songs are what actually got me into this kind of music sooo -Type O Negative They're more metal leening but their tunes have a real gothic vibe, listen to Christian Women or Black No. 1 and you'll know what I mean. They also made an AWESOME cover of three Beatles songs as a single medly that acts as the finale to their album World Coming Down -Joy Division They're technically Post Punk but I'm counting them anyways because they give the same gloomy feeling goth gives. Their songs can range from melancholic to melancholic but a bit more energetic. Their most goth songs to me are Disorder and Atmosphere (which was ranked no.1 goth song of all time) Hope this helped a wee bit XP
Type O Negative also has the added benefit of being LGBTQ-friendly. For example, the song "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend."
