What is the average time to have one's membership upgraded to full member status? I applied weeks ago, but still no word on the status. I realize one has to browse through the posts before that is granted and so I am trying to be patient.

    Many thanks!

It can take weeks or months. I applied five weeks ago and still waiting. Just have to be patient.

Thanks! It's too bad this process cannot be done in a speedier fashion. The current process here reminds me of trying to hear back from Federal agencies like the IRS, Social Security or FEMA. One has to wait forever.......

They're short on staff *insert shrug emoji* and they're volunteers (I think?). I'm sure they've got plenty of full member forms they want to look through as well as make sure the site is actually functioning at a respectful level. It'll be processed eventually, I'm sure.

I appreciate the additional info. I did not know about the limited number of volunteer staff. That explains it. I will be patient. *smile*

Dionysios.....All the staff are volunteers. So sometimes it does take longer than all of us would like!

It really shouldn't take months, but it does sometimes. We are pretty short staffed (but working on that at the moment, actually), and all of us are volunteers, but nonetheless, it would be nice if we could move the apps currently in the queue forward. At one point, we could turn them around in about 5 days, but... until we have a lot more staff, it will probably be a while before we get back to that standard.

    We do appreciate the patience.

Although it took me a matter of months, until I felt it might never happen, I was nevertheless impressed by how thoroughly and courteously I was dealt with and have respect for the board in that regard. Anyway good luck and keep chewing the chill pills for now.

Thanks so much to everyone for your replies! Gaining full membership is a process that takes time. I am sure that it will be worth the wait! *smile*

Well, another month has come and gone, and I am still waiting for the full membership to be decided upon. *sigh*

I am trying to be patient but I am beginning to think that I will see the Second Coming before I see Full Membership status. I understand that the site is understaffed but I thought that more staff had come on board to speed up the backlog of applications. This whole process is quite an uneven one. I know people who applied after me who were granted full membership in five weeks while I've been waiting nine weeks and counting. That does not seem very fair to those of us still waiting and waiting.

How are these applications actually processed? How many applications are out there? Are we talking of hundreds? What do these stages really mean? I've been on the 3rd stage for weeks. Others skipped through the 3rd and 4th stage in days. Do volunteers have to comb though each and every post? When I first applied, I had only a modest number of posts. Now that list has grown substantially, causing me to pity the poor soul who has to read everything I've written. Does one person do this or is some work done, and then shifted to someone else?

I apologize for venting but I feel as if I have been trying to resolve a dispute with a cable company or a federal agency. Nothing ever seems to get done. I suspect others are also as frustrated as I am with the snail-like pace of this Full Membership application odyssey.

We do read these threads, you know... and we know people are impatient. We've added some new staff and are adding more, it's just a process that takes time, and that's in between the immediate work of reviewing posts, removing spam, and the like.

Again, I think the entire staff wants to get to the place where these are reviewed much more quickly. That should happen eventually, but for now, we really are doing the best we can, especially given that all of us are volunteers, and nearly all of us have full-time jobs (sometimes more than that) outside of our work with EC.

There is an application process. Not sure if it is live right now or not. I know we have a minimum post requirement, and a minimum membership time period, but I can't offhand remember, something like 6+ months and 400 posts maybe? We also have typically not had staff younger than about 16, and even that is fairly unusual. I wouldn't rule it out completely, but I'd also suggest just continuing to post, offer assistance where you can, and keep your eyes out for the application when it reappears (if it isn't live right now, which it probably isn't.)
