LGBT News Florida Passes "Don't Say Gay" Bill

    Exactly. To LGBTQ people of my generation the Conservative Party is toxic and I will campaign against them and try to undermine support for them until the day I die. I will never forget the harm they caused with section 28. It was an appalling piece of legislation that contributed to so much suffering and left teachers powerless to support LGBTQ teenagers. It also came on the back of the Conservatives grotesque mishandling of the AIDS crisis, which fuelled the hysteria that led to section 28.

    I was able to touch base with one of my former teachers after I left school and came out as gay. She told me how she and other teaching colleagues saw the signs and witnessed the bullying and harrassment of gay kids, but could not intervene in any meaningful way due to section 28. What we see now in Florida is exactly the same and I hope it has the same effect on the politcial fortunes of the legislators.

    The LGBTQ community can never trust conservative politicians.

    Hopefully, there will be a brave student, who in the middle of a current events class, will announce: "I am saying the word, "Gay", as part of my freedom of speech.

    This is very upsetting. We should always be moving forward and progressing lgbt rights. It’s sad to see so many U.S. States moving backwards.

    "Oh no! You're teaching kids how to have sex! How gross!"
    Then they go and tell kids how to have sex at 14.
