AAA let's go! First trailer for Love, Victor has dropped! Show streams on Hulu 6/19.
Can't wait! I need to remeber to create a Hulu account to watch this.
I have absolutely no idea when mine expires (I thought it was supposed to in February...), but I'm super hype for this!
Is this the Latinx equiv to Love, Simon? Love, Simon was a white washed LGBT representation.
It's set two years after Love, Simon with a Latino lead, yes.
Not entirely sure how Love, Simon is considered white washed, though. It's based on Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda which has a white lead, so it makes sense that Simon is white?
In addition, three of the main characters in Love, Simon (Abby, Bram and Nick) are all non-white. Simon is white in the novel so I dont understand how this would be whitewashing.
its a white pov of a queer White character.
That's not what white washing is, though. White washing would be if Simon was a POC originally and then making him white for the movie. LGBT people of all races exist, just because the main character is white doesn't mean it's white washed?
Queer white kids benefit from Simon's story just as much as queer Latinx kids will benefit from Victor's story.
I'm so tired of the romance/coming of age approach..
Maybe I worded myself wrong.
Love, Simon(the original movie) it took place from a White queer POV. I was saying that Love, Simon is a cisgender White gay youth pov.
If there wasn't a Love, Victor spin off, I would have been more critical of the fact that Love, Simon presented just a cisgender White gay suburban perspective
Love, Victor at least shows a pov from a non-White/Latinx/ pov.
I understand and aware that LGBTQ people are of different races/cultures. I myself identify as a Chicano LGBT person/queer person of color.
Yeah, wording gets mixed up a lot online. I completely get what you're saying, sorry for the confusion.
In an ideal world we would get more adaptations of Latinx queer experiences, it sucks it's taken us this long to start to make progress. I would frankly kill to see Aristotle and Dante get adapted somehow.
Simon Vs. and by extension Love, Simon means a lot to me personally, but I am happy that Love, Victor is going to be exploring a similar experience in a very different set of circumstances. And based on the writer's room for the series, they're doing what they can to represent an authentic experience.
On a positive note, Adam Silvera is Puerto Rican and two of his books are getting adapted for HBO Max.
I was speaking about Love, Simon(the movie) it gives off an idealistic interpretation cis White queer youth's coming out compared to a non-White LGTBQ youth
I...understand that? I apologized in my last post for any confusion. That's why I said...
Anyone watched it yet?
I've been working my way through slowly. It's been a mix of trying to find time and wanting to savor it. I absolutely love it.
I've had a crazy work schedule as of late so I havent had time yet but I want to soon
I cried watching Love Simon and I cried watching this. I’ve never related to to a movie or tv show so much. I’m so glad I made this TV show!
PS if you don’t have a Hulu account and would like to save some money, wait till Black Friday. If you subscribe to Hulu on Black Friday it’ll be $1.99 every month for the whole year. That’s what I have.
