    La Cage aux Folles (1978)
The original French version - the American copy - "The Birdcage" with Robin Williams was good but not a patch on the original.

I read one recently -not a favorite but eh- called "And Playing the Role/Part of Herself", which is about these two actresses on a TV show that get together after some misunderstandings. It's not the best, but it is rather realistic in the relationship(not in whatever the deal with the car crash was).
For movie, I'll have to go old school. DEBS.

The BBC2 recently aired a two-part series called "Man In An Orange Shirt," screenplay by openly gay author Patrick Gale, who learned as a young adult, from his mother, that his father was a closeted gay man. He had never felt particularly close to his father, who had always seemed emotionally withdrawn, but his father had remained married to his mother. Patrick discovered that his father had jilted the man he was in love with in order to appear "respectable."

Patrick turned the reality of his parents' story into the fictional "Man In An Orange Shirt." It stars Vanessa Redgrave (very moving portrayal), Oliver Cohen Jackson, James McArdle, Julian Morris, Julian Sands, among others. It is outstanding, showing the effects of homophobia in the 1940s and 50s, and the resulting consequences two generations later, in the 2010s. A letter from his grandfather to the man he jilted in order to appear straight, is found by his grandson, and it will break your heart as you hear him read it.

One of the best things I've seen in years, well-acted and an intelligent script that shows the effect of homophobia on gay and straight people alike.

It's from July-August 2017 on the BBC2, but I suspect that by now, it's probably available online or for streaming.

My favorite movie so far is Transamerica (2005) about a pre-op transgender woman named Bree who discovers she had a son, a bisexual prostitute named Toby. She bails him out of prison, pretending to be a missionary from the church and the whole movie's basically a roadtrip from there, they're trying to reach L.A....so Bree can get her vaginoplasty and Toby can become a pornstar  It's a comedy-drama but it has a happy ending.

And my favorite books, although not centered on LGBT issues, are probably The Mortal Instruments series. Only because I relate to the character of Alec so much, my friend said I'm basically a female version of him :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: It was really the first time I'd seen an LGBT character in a story that wasn't focused on coming out or that made a big deal out of sexuality. Also, because Malec gives me hope that one day I can have someone who loves me too. And because Magnus is fabulous

I don't know if this counts, but Skim by Mariko Tamaki is a wonderful graphic novel about a queer girl coping after the death of a classmate. It's one of my favorites. The LGBTQ+ themes are minor, but I think the subtlety works for it, rather than against it.

Best LGBTQ+ themed books to date are Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertali, I will fight you on this.

I haven't read many explicitly LGBT books, but I did get assigned one in my contemporary literature class last semester, Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel. There isn't a really structured romance or anything, but it's such an interesting true story about growing up as a lesbian in a household with a closeted gay father. Tons and tons of emotion, cool drawings, smooth allusions to Oscar Wilde. I'd kill to do half of what Bechdel does with a pen.
