Do you know you are trans from a young age or old age?

I just wanted to know if cis people eventually find out they are trans or is it a phase at an older age?
because I have heard teenagers who have had surgery and wanted to go back because they realised it wasn't for them?

It's different for everyone. Some people know at a young age, and some know when they're older. I think most people tend to find out when they are older, but the media wants to 'normalize' knowing you're trans at a young age. If you watch any media source, most will show young(er) children going through HRT/surgery and the process; like Jazz Jennings on TLC.

If you're questioning, I think the best thing to do is experiment with names, pronouns and expression. Stuff that can easily be reversed.

But I am fine being a man. I tried wearing dresses didn’t feel right for me, I wore makeup it was okay but I haven’t done it ever since I tried it. I love my voice and my facial hair could I be gender fluid maybe I feel I don’t need to get surgery I don’t want it either I am just happy being who I am. I only had these thoughts a week ago when I turned 20 which is weird. Maybe it’s a phase maybe it’s not...any advice

I'm also fine being a man but I feel disgusted with my body hair and facial hair,. I don't think I would be comfortable wearing a dress either. I think deep down I feel more neutral than like a man or a woman.

I started questioning in my early teen years, and accepted myself at 16. I came out at 17 and started transitioning at 19. A common narrative I hear is people finding out during puberty, because that is when a lot of changes start happening that could trigger dysphoria in a trans person. It is not very common for people who transition to detransition, because often even starting HRT requires undergoing evaluations from doctors and time in therapy with a specialist.

To get surgery takes even longer and requires more time (my insurance, for examples, requires that I have been on testosterone for a year before they give me the green light to get top surgery). At each step there are letters and quotas to be met to be approved. So usually, if someone was going to detransition it would be early on in the process when they find out that the changes from HRT, for instance, are not helping their dysphoria and may be even worsening it.
