Great news! I let out a little shout of joy when I saw it on the MSNBC ticker. But you know the economy is bad when they aren't talking about this on the news.

The Iowa Supreme Court announced last week that they will hold a hearing on Same-Sex Marriage on December 9th. I am cautiosly optimistic about the outcome of that hearing.

Many Iowans I have heard from see this as a chance to prove that we aren't a backwards state(as most Americans would believe), and show that we truly are a progressive place....Well, everywhere but over here on the West side.

Can PFLAG come to Australia after you guys kick the UK's butt for Martin?

We have a Prime Minister who needs a stern kick.

"YES" is only ahead by 74 votes now with my vote included. It's sad, but it wasn't long ago that "Do you support interracial marriage?" would have gotten similar results. Now that's perfectly legal and (mostly) socially acceptable. Hopefully it will be within my youth that same-sex marriage gets the same treatment.

I'm happy my state joined the list. Hopefully nearby Rhode Island and New York will take pace and do the same!!

A happy day for the Constitution state!

Rhode Island will be sure to follow, I think, considering the mayor of their capital, Providence, is gay...

NJ and NY will also come soon as well.

Before I forget, congratulations to all of our Connecticut members who may plan on getting married in the future.

I think the entire northeast of the US, within the next 10 years, is going to don rainbows. Woohoo! XD

After reading this tread, I was wondering where else is gay marriage is legal. I know its legal in Massachusetts, Connecticut, California and in Canada. Any place else?

There's now a momentum in legalizing gay marriage that should continue into the future. I think Prop 8 is absolutely key in the overall movement; it could kill the momentum behind the current slew of legalizations. If Prop 8 fails (and I can only hope beyond hope that it does), within 20-30 years we should have legal same-sex marriage throughout the US. Western Europe is going that way regardless.

    My prediction ;-)

BTW, same-sex marriage is also legal in the Netherlands.

My hopeful bet is that even if Prop 8 does pass through now, it will probably be demolished 10 years ahead of time by a longshot. (Unless, of course, the religous right track down any place that is the slightest accepting of gays and shout out long enough, "We must protect our families from uhh… families Teh Homosexuar Agendar! Omg! :eek:slight_smile: Just look how far equality has progressed from 1998-2008 and don't tell me there isn't any big difference.
