I have had several PMs about this so I think we need a "sticky".

If you want to include a photo or other image in a forum post there are two basic ways to do it.

    Attachments

This is probably the easiest way. Your images will be displayed as thumbnails in your post, and people will need to click on them to see the full size version.

    1. If you are using the quick reply feature below a thread, click the [Go Advanced] button to get to the full page editor.

    2. Scroll down and click the [Manage Attachments] button. The attachment manager will open in a new window.

    3. You can upload up to five photos from your computer per post. Click the first [Browse...] button and find the first photo on your computer. Repeat for other photos if necessary.

    4. Click the [Upload] button. This actually sends the photos from your computer up to EC. If you forget to do this the images won't be attached.

    5. If there were any problems it will tell you. When you are done, close the attachment manager window.

    6. Complete your post and submit it as usual.

    Hotlinking from your gallery

If you have made 10 or more posts in the forum you can use your gallery and blog here on EC. There is a good getting started guide here and information about a bug in the gallery is here.

Images included this way will show full size in your post.

    1. Upload the image to your gallery as described in the getting started guide. So that it doesn't push the forum page out too wide it would be good to resize the image to no more than about 600 pixels wide. There is a thread about image resizing here.

    2. View the image in your gallery (you may find it easier to do this in a different tab). Scroll down and look for a line which says "Image URL:". Select the text in the box next to that, right-click on it and choose "Copy".

    3. Go to the thread and start a reply as usual. At the point where you want your image, click the [IMG] button. In the box that appears, right-click and choose "Paste". This will paste in the Image URL that you copied from your gallery.

    4. If you have further images to include, repeat steps 2 and 3 as required.

    5. Complete the post and submit it as usual. It would be a good idea to preview it first to make sure the images load correctly.

    Hotlinking from another website

You may prefer to upload the images to a photo sharing site such as PhotoBucket or ImageShak instead of using the EC gallery. Or you may want to use an image that is already on another website.

To do this, just go from step 3 above. You will need to find the URL of the image yourself.

    - If you are using Firefox, simply right-click on the image and click "Copy Image Location", which you can then paste straight into the box mentioned in (3) above.

    - If you are using Internet Explorer 7 it's a bit more difficult. Right-click the image and choose "Properties...". Find the line that says "Address (URL):",select all the text to the right, right-click and choose "Copy". Then paste this in as above.

    - If you are using an image sharing website it may tell you the image URL on the page.

Hopefully this info is useful. Corrections and additions welcomed.
