You don't just move to Canada.

There are plenty of other people from around the world trying to get in, so it tends to be skilled workers with a job already lined up who move here. Or people related to an immigrant; the family member immigration policy is what really opens the flood gates for Canada's immigration.

But ya, it's really not as easy as you think, it's not incredibly hard especially if you are an American since you already know English...etc, but it's not as easy as you think.

Anyway, not all of Canada is super progressive. We have laws in place to protect everyone, but we can't police how people act socially, so there still is some homophobia. It's not blatant homophobia, but it exists. People here may not call you a faggot to your face, but they'll do it behind your back.

Point being, the U.S isn't that far behind, and there is no point leaving a country with so many options, why not just move to a more progressive state. There are states that are comparable to Canada with their sexuality laws.

I really don't think Canada is a good choice to move to, when coming from the U.S. There is just so much less opportunity here; it's not horrible, but there aren't as many options. For large city areas, there's pretty much only Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary; wouldn't even consider Calgary actually. That's it, the U.S you have 10 X that. One of the cities in your country will suit how you feel guaranteed.

A lot of people need to realize that each state in America is like a whole different country. I can safely say most of them suck. Do I like my government, not really I disagree with Cuomo and Obama on pretty much everything, but I'm in a very leftist state, if you go south of me then it's all right wing. There are definitely problems with America, its government, its people, its laws, but it could be worse.

All things considered it has it's ups and downs, but I think mostly ups.

The United States of America, as it is now, sucks. I don't mean the current Presidency, even though some of Obama's actions have made me wonder why he made them, but in the US at least, there's no such thing as an honest politician, because there can't be.

Every time we're set up for the slightest hope for groundbreaking change, the people don't let it happen. We say we want change, but it never happens because we don't let it. We always seem to want to be living in the 1950s, even though those years are long past, and those who lived in that era are starting to drop like flies. Ferguson was a perfect example of that, racism and all. The amount of racism in this country truly makes me ashamed to be white. This country also reeks of hipocrisy so much, I can smell it on my toast. There's an entire political party that cries out for "smaller government" and yet, they hold the vast majority of seats in Congress. There are people who don't do certain things because it's "Socialist" and "Communism" when they have no idea what those really are, they write off science as a belief, but once they get violently sick or injured, they turn to scientists to treat them while being carried to the hospital in a socialist idea. The WBC (and other anti-gay organizations) uses the internet and computer programs to condemn gays and other minorities, arguably even knowing that the inventor of their tools was gay himself.

The education system purposefully leaves out vital things in history, things that could possibly even have destroyed racism, sexism and homophobia long ago. Speaking of said education system, it's a very outdated system, and nobody at the top seems to be willing to change any of it.

As others have said, I like the *idea* of America. A place where EVERYONE has the opportunity to succeed. But America hasn't lived up to its idea by any stretch of the imagination, and unfortunately, I don't see it getting better in the next few years.

Oh, I almost forgot. Our favorite game here in the States is "Blame the Victim". You get bonus points if you do it first, and if you do it the most, you go up in society.

I dislike a lot of aspects of this country, but there's something about it that's keeping me grounded--even though I've wanted to leave for Canada since I was 14. I think it's a weird kind of Stockholm's Syndrome.

Eeeeehhhh I wouldn't say I hate America However I do hate some things about America.

I hate that corporations basically run our government, I hate that we get involved in issues overseas that we really shouldn't be involved with, I hate that we're the ones who created all the issues in the Middle East in the first place, I hate that black kids get killed by cops for just existing, I hate that many states don't have marriage equality and even ones that do often times still has a lot of homophobia, I hate that we don't have universal healthcare, I hate our education system, I hate that fox news is not only a thing but that a ton of people watch it.

However at the same time I like that we tend to be very open and friendly to people, I like that we're a melting pot, I like that there's so much open space and I love our national parks, I like that while there are still a bunch of backwards people there are just as many trying to really create progress, I like American microbrews and I love that we're going through like a food and drink renaissance right now, I like that people here are overall optimistic and really do want to make the world a better place, I like that we are slowly progressing.

Honestly I feel like packing up and moving to another country is just giving up. We have to fight to improve things here. Also, Canada and Europe has it's fair share of problems too, like the mistreatment of First Nations people in Canada, the expulsion of Roma people from many European countries, rising Antisemitism in France, just to name a few problems. When you move, you're replacing your old problems with new ones.

I often find myself disappointed with my country's choices and get frustrated, but at the end of the day, I feel like I have a civil obligation to my country. If everyone who was displeased with how it is being run/controlled packed their bags and left for Canada, then our country would never improve and it would remain in the current state it is in.

I know most people are facetious when they threaten to move to Canada, but that attitude can be as destructive

Here in Canada...well all I can say is people are way too isolated.
Unless you can find friends, you're going to be met by only cold winds.
But the majority of the population are nice.

I don't hate America. It's really just specific states/cities I'm not found of. Not a huge fan of Florida, even though I lived there for about 12 years, and not über fond of some of the Southern states. Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon), plus Northern California actually is pretty nice. People up there tend to be pretty open minded and laid back.

Sooooo basically you'd rather live in a more homogenous country where there's no racism because there's nobody to be racist against?

I'm in Canada and I'm not isolated. I live in a city of over 800,000. Friends are easy to make because there are a lot of nice people. Also we allow same-sex marriage, and there's the whole free healthcare thing

I do not hate america. I dont have a big opinion on it because I've only been there once. For a weekend. But I do love Canada.

I wouldn't say I 'hate' it hear but I disagree with, and am frustrated with, MUCH of what makes it what it is. I see myself in Sweden, actually, where much of my heritage is.

Personally I don't hate America, I just don't like it. It weird, my dad is in the army so I move, a lot, recently I lived in Europe and I loved it. Everything is so much nicer their, at least in the part I lived. The food is better, the bathrooms are cleaner, the air just feels warmer, the style is so amazing, and stuff.
I'm planning on going to college somewhere in Europe.

That's not what I said at all.

No racism =/= one race. Nazi Germany is a perfect example of that.

I'd much like to see more representation of PoC, especially those who haven't had any representation at all, or have had very, very little (looking at you, Muslims). It's the racism that perpetuates their lack of representation.

Racism is a very structural thing, especially here in the US. If we don't attack it, it will only perpetuate or take on a different form. What really frosts my cookies is that people will learn that, and still not do anything, yet exclaiming "There's no racism!"

I tend not to hate things, since that's a rather extreme emotion, requiring extreme triggers.
It's also silly to me to hate countries or whole groups of people.

With regards to the U.S. I dislike their political system, specifically their two party system, the fact that neither party is moderate, let alone left, according to European definitions. And I also dislike their method of electing presidents which is not only indirect, but skewed due to the structure of the EC and things like gerry mandering and disproportionate voting power.
Also don't like the influence of Christianity in politics, the issue(s) of racism in politics and daily life and the fact that they have the death penalty.

I don't know enough about US day-to-day culture or it's people, but the American people I'v either met or seen on TV seem to fall into two catagories:
    1. Educated, 'rational' people who can see the flaws of their country and recognise the U.S. isn't some mytical land of awesomeness the rest of the world worships.
    2. People who are the exact opposite of this. Don't quite like those.

There are plenty of things I do like about the U.S. though; it's landscape and various historical and cultural sites, which I haven't yet visited, but would love to.
And like I said there are plenty of Americans I could get along with greatly. Most Americans I've met personally fall in this catagory.

On the whole though I cannot say I dislike or hate America as a whole though.
Just like with other countries, there's things to like and dislike.
For example, my own favorite country is Japan, but it to has things I strongly dislike, like capital punishment, opressive social tendencies and a fixation with fish and incredbly sweet candy.
