Hi I just joined this forum. You can call me Jamie. I'm trying out this name. I go by he/him pronouns. I've been questioning my gender since I was 17. When I was a kid I wished I could be a boy. I think I might be trans. A few weeks ago I came out to my mom but she doesn't understand me at all. She's still calling me she/her and my birth name. I told her I want to transition. But she won't let me wear what I want to or buy a binder or change my hair. I think she thinks I'm confused or something. It hurts. I feel depressed and frustrated and dysphoric. I came out to my older sister too. She's been really supportive. She said she'll use my name and he/him pronouns for me. I have friends online and I'm out to them. No one else in my life knows though. I love to draw, read books and manga, write, watch anime, play video games. I want to make some friends here.
Hi Jamie! I'm trans as well, and the forum helped me a lot. You can find so many friends to talk to, and they're really supportive of everyone! I'm happy that your older sister supports you, it's an amazing start. I understand how it feels; it's horrible. Maybe someday she will come to understand you. Empty Closets is all about making connections and giving LGBTQ folks a voice when they otherwise don't have one in their day-to-day lives. *****In particular you may want to check out the forum that is titled "Gender Identity and Expression”, there are people there who may have dealt with some of the same kind of issues that could be challenging you. Some info on how to navigate EC: hen you have made at least 10 posts on various threads you will be able to post messages on a member's Profile Page. Just click on a member's Avatar Picture and then click on "Profile Page" in the dialogue box that pops up. You'll then be on their Profile Page and there will be a box that says: "Write Something" When you have been on EC for a few weeks and have made at least 50 posts on various forums, you can apply for Full Membership. A Full Member can send Private Messages (PM) to other Full Members and share personal contact info. Right now you can only send a PM to a Staff Member as that is always possible. Here is a quote from the Full Membership information forum: *****To be eligible you must be a member of Empty Closets for a minimum of two weeks, and have a minimum of 50 posts. These posts must be across numerous forums (Fun & Games does not contribute to post count), and consistently posted across a minimum of two weeks. Hey Jamie, Welcome, I am sorry to hear your mother is not supporting you as she should be. It can be scary to come out and even worse when it doesn't go as hopped. I want to tell you she will accept you tommrow but it will take time and the best thing is to try to give it to her. Focus on yourself not her reaction to you, do things that make you feel strong and confident in your self. It sounds stereotypical but watch football, rugby, do things teenage boys do. I know alot of people who are trans and this is what helped them find what they were comfortable with and helped also their parents start to see them as their real gender. I hope this is helpful, really. Ps. Keep in close contact with your sister, I am gay and my sister was originally the only accepting one. It helps LOTS to have a family member be accepting
