Thinking about what's going on in the world makes me question more and more "why can't we all just get along?"

    Dreadful.

This isn't good for anyone, but is probably especially hard on people with depression, anxiety, and mental health issues.

Thank you. I've had a very good English teacher in school and, well, most of my extensive home library happens to be in English, because many books just aren't available in local languages.
It seems to be a thing that many people make less grammatical mistakes when speaking or writing in a foreign language and more in their native one.

100% agreed. After 6000 of civilisation, we could have learned to do better than that.

One of the reasons why I have stopped following the news closely and limit myself to listening to the news once a day in the morning.

The upside is that it has added to a reduced screen time and an increase in time available to read literature.

I have been thinking about the inhumanity in the world. I wish that humanity's greatest tool would be empathy for those who are suffering. Please be kind, the world depends upon you to feel loved.

Ugh it’s going to be freezing tomorrow morning. At least, I get to wear my new parka.

I hate the clock turning. I feel tired. I wish we could stay in the summertime.

Hello All.....I don't like it when it gets cold...I worry about my kitty "Biscuit" ( pictures in my album) getting cold at night as she sleeps outside. Okay...I know I am a softy at heart when it comes to her! :old_frown: She has a dome-shaped covered bed with a heated pad but I still worry about her! She is my sweet little Biscuit-kitty and I don't want her to be cold! I bring her into my office everyday around 4:00 pm and she snuggles into her indoor bed...a soft pillow. When I have to take her out (no indoor litter box and my wife is not in favor of having one) around 10 pm, she makes such mournful meows because she knows she is going out. I know she has fur and she does spend most of the day from about 8:00 am to 4:00 pm outside, but I am such a wimp! :old_oops: Is anyone else as bad as I am with their pet?

I think anyone would get worried over a beloved pet. Pets are family. How about putting a tiny camera to where she sleeps? Maybe this will ease your mind. There are the kinds where you can use your phone to monitor inside the dome. You can get the cheap kind.

I’m with you on this one.

It’s normal to worry about pets, they’re part of the family, just like Rain said. For that matter, I just like you in that regard.

Home made is awesome. It's good I love to cook and I'm always open to trying new things. I tried roasted squash for the first time last year, and loved it.

Thanks! Hopefully things are going better for you.

In other news: Blessed Samhain, Happy Halloween to all who celebrate it. It's going to be busy here tomorrow, so I thought I'd drop in today and say it to all of my fellow members a day early. Have a fun and safe day everyone!

I'm so glad we don't have deadlines at my publisher, and we do contracts book by book. I'd be in serious trouble if I had deadlines.

How do you not have deadlines? How do you do production schedules? Do you not get a release date until you turn in your book? How do they avoid having too many books release at once? (Sorry, I know...frankly a great deal about this stuff and I'm so curious.)

I've had back to back interviews this week, so I think it's time for a quick nap and an afternoon to relax!

Sounds like my Zeus. He’s a 90/10 outdoor cat. He’ll “sneak in” occasionally and run for his bed where he knows he has to stay when he’s inside. He has a detached heated garage he can run in and out of which helps in the winter.

No worries. It's natural to be curious. I didn't know much until my debut novel came out. We do book by book contracts at both of my publishers, unless the author has the series planned out and proposed, then they can do series contracts. I'm with two smaller presses, and they tend to do things a lot differently than the larger publishers like Harlequin/Silhouette, Penguin/Randomhouse, Kensington, and others.

The books are published within two to four months of contract signing at both publishers, although one of mine came out only six weeks after the contract was signed (it can happen if there's not a lot of books coming out on a given day or week). We get our covers, edits, revisions and a "floating" publication date while in Round 2 of edits, and sometimes the date changes, depending on our progress. Some editors have things back within a week, others a month (average 3 weeks).

The one publisher has done up to 6 books published per week, as less as 2 published per week. We go weekly, not monthly like some do. I write for one of the more known and highly reputable small presses in the world. The other one publishes the books when they are ready, sometimes four or five per day go out. It varies from press to press too.

Our head editor at my main press is one of the top in the world too, and they're awesome at making sure everything is neat, orderly, and the authors know the ins and outs of how things work there. They have a schedule set, based on when the contract was signed, who is editing, and when other books are coming out.

It's a complicated process but I'm so used to it that I really don't think about it, other than calculating the time frame of when one of my books will come out, the edits will be here, and so forth. Oh, and if our cover artists will hit it dead on with the cover, like they did with the one for my paranormal-horror book, which came out with the second publisher. It was perfection and more.
